HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- School officials say the students at a Pennsylvania school are getting sandwiches for lunch for failing to appreciate the hot meals the district provides.
The Harrisburg Patriot-News reports the pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade students at Camp Curtain School have received cold sandwiches this week as punishment for misbehavior, including failure to clean up after themselves.
An administrator tells the newspaper that behavior has improved. The official says the lunches still include fruit and vegetables.
Hot meal service will resume at the school on Monday.
So NOT being served school lunch is considered punishment? I'd say that's a reward.
The kids at our school always bitched about the food, but it didn't really bother me though.
Sure it's not a 5 Star restaurant but come on?
I should also mention I didn't go to some big city school with a McDonalds and a Pizza Hut and whatnot.

The sandwiches are still being made by the school, so it's technically still school lunch.
Oh noooo?
That's terrible?
Sandwiches are probably better than hot school food anyway, that shit is so nasty.

Yes but anyone can throw some cold cuts on bread. It takes a special kind of empathetic robot to make a salad still manage to have 600 calories.
Those sandwiches beat the hell out of the "pizza" or "fish sticks" or "burgers" with "coleslaw" that schools regularly serve. The amazing thing is that healthier food doesn't cost any more to buy in bulk, it's just that most school districts simply don't buy healthy food, and so almost nobody invests in it. The school lunch program was excellent for when the average American was malnourished at home. Now it's quite the opposite and we need to change accordingly, while still providing the proper nutrition to those who cannot afford it.
Do kids in america just not bring lunch to school?
What happened to making your own lunch in the morning?
Lame punishment.
It might actually teach them a lesson if the school food tasted good.

Well we can, but generally we don't. Maybe people like being served hot food or maybe we're just really lazy and don't want to make a lunch in the morning.
As shitty as school lunches are, they are convenient. Just get in line, pay, and go eat.

Doesn't change the fact that it's a school lunch.
As in they have something of a moral obligation to either burn it, add an extra 200 calories, or just mess it up beyond comprehension in some other way.
My school's food was halfway decent, so I would have been punishment for me.

The food companies sometimes give the schools money for carrying their food. Like soda machines in school, while unhealthy, the school is given money for carrying the soda. Watch Supersize Me, it's free on Youtube for christs sake.
my schools got some hot shot student cooking program or something so the foods pretty damn good
My school's food is pretty decent. This would've sucked for me. We had a food fight last year and had Nachos taken away for the next year because that's the food we had a fight with

Schools can have maccas and pizza huts in them?

There was some sort of Taco Bell style thing at my old school.

In some cases, the schools won't allow it. Claiming that what the school serves is healthier, etc.

wow.
wow.
The best thing though, was sausage egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast. Damn that was good

haha
we wouldn't be lucky to get anything like that when i was at school. it was only fruit, fruit juices and a couple of things like meat pies and the occasional bacon and egg in english muffin.

That's the dumbest statement I've ever heard. (Directed at the school's statement, not yours)
Since when can schools just ban home made lunches? that'd get the government all riled up over here.
lucky (fat?) americans
hardly
it's convenient, but it was probably the most consistently disgusting and unhealthy food I ever ate. thank god I'm done with high school
So... If you don't like the food they're serving you, you get free food? How ironic.

You gotta be pretty damn hungry to wait in line for that crap.
The school lunches at my elementary/middle school were never cooked all the way, so I had half frozen ham or non completely fried fries a lot. So glad my high school lets us go out to eat.

there was a thread in the ITN a few months back about a principal from new york(?) banning home made meals on that basis
Do you guys base all your opinions on your old outdated life while going to these schools? Because I worked at one for about a month as a janitor and I have to say the school food is 10 times better than what it used to be.
I had those chicken pattie sandwiches and a piece of cornbread everyday in my school lunch. So fucking good.
