The findings come amid debates on whether the extinct species should be resurrected using DNA. Scientists say they have managed to find mammoth blood during the excavation of a grown female animal on the Lyakhovsky Islands, the southernmost group of the New Siberian Islands in the Arctic seas of northeastern Russia. The dark blood was found in ice cavities below the belly of the animal. When researchers broke the cavities with a poll pick, the blood came flowing out. The fact surprised them because the temperature was 10C below zero. -- The blood was placed in a test tube and a bacteriological analysis of the sample is expected soon. The muscle tissue of the animal was also well-preserved and had a natural red color of fresh meat, added the scientist. Such preservation can be explained by the fact that the lower part of the mammoth’s body was trapped in pure ice, while the upper part was discovered in the middle of the tundra. The trunk was found separately from the carcass. i wonder what mammoth meat would taste like
Ressurect it! Please.
Well that is very interesting indeed, quite interesting to see that it can remain intact for so long.. Did they already have enough DNA to clone these, or? Else I suppose this would be a perfect opportunity.

I like how they have a picture of a mammoth that is the exact opposite of well preserved.
Ressurect it! Please.
I remember reading somewhere that a lot of scientists don't want to resurrect animals that has gone extinct a long time ago.
Ressurect it! Please.
Aren't they already working on that?
That would be amazing to see a mammoth which is living.
i wonder what mammoth meat would taste like

Ressurect it! Please.
Seeing these two posts in a row makes me want scientists to resurrect it, just so I can eat it. [editline]30th May 2013[/editline] I'm kidding, I'd love to be able see it in real life.
The findings come amid debates on whether the extinct species should be resurrected using DNA.
The sooner you people stop debating and get around to playing god, the sooner I can ride and pet these things at the zoo. I wouldn't mind trying a mammoth burger, either. Resurrect us some dodos while you're at it so I can open a fast food chain.
Part of the reason mammoths are extinct is they probably have massive gestation periods. Wouldn't be very useful for meat even if we did Jurassic park them.
I remember reading somewhere that a lot of scientists don't want to resurrect animals that has gone extinct a long time ago.
No, I'm pretty sure the majority of them do. It's the ethicists who go around fucking up everybody's fun.
I remember reading somewhere that a lot of scientists don't want to resurrect animals that has gone extinct a long time ago.
Where'd you read that?
Didnt they clone an elephant/mammoth hybrid at some point?
Where'd you read that?
I'm not sure, might have been a Science Illustrated magazine or something similar. It was a long time ago.
No, I'm pretty sure the majority of them do. It's the ethicists who go around fucking up everybody's fun.
what's so unethical about it anyway? something about the sanctity of life or something?
I hope they domesticate Mammoth's someday.
what's so unethical about it anyway? something about the sanctity of life or something?
Idiots who think playing god is a bad thing.

Question: Should we resurrect an ancient species, a creature so old that its evolutionary relatives have long since gone on separate paths? Answer: WHY THE FUCK NOT!
I thought DNA had a apparent "half life", or have I heard wrong?
I thought DNA had a apparent "half life", or have I heard wrong?
Strongly depends on the conditions it's stored in.
I hope everyone who misused apostrophes dies out rventually
I hope everyone who mispells "eventually" dies out eventually.
i wonder what mammoth meat would taste like
Probably chicken, depending if it's white meat on the inside.
I hope everyone who mispells "eventually" dies out eventually.
I hope everyone who misspells "misspells" die out eventually.
I hope everyone who misspells "misspells" die out eventually.
I hope everyone who drops the letter "s" in "dies" dies out eventually.
How is bringing back an animal that we made go extinct playing god? If anything it's trying to fix what we fucked up.
i wonder what mammoth meat would taste like
Imagine if they sell the mammoth in a butchery shop. Mmmmm million year old aged mammoth meat.
How is bringing back an animal that we made go extinct playing god? If anything it's trying to fix what we fucked up.
Because we fucked up the mammoths yeah
