China Replaces US as Germany's Largest Trading Partner, US Falls to Third
China for the first time became Germany's most important trading partner in 2016, overtaking the United States, which fell back to third place behind France, data showed on Friday.
German imports from and exports to China rose to 170 billion euros ($180 billion) last year, Federal Statistics Office figures reviewed by Reuters showed.
The development is good news for the German government, which has made it a goal to safeguard global free trade after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on imports and his top adviser on trade accused Germany of exploiting a weak euro to boost exports.
And how long is that gonna last with the isolationist, 'murrica first stance Trump and the GOP is pushing? Shit, he's threatening to dissolve NAFTA, not to mention all the other friendly relations he's throwing down the shitter. The cultural dominance the US enjoys is dependent on friends in high places all over the world, as well as the people enjoying what the US pushes out. We don't particularly enjoy Trump, or his administration, or his policies, just saying.

even if the us government is taking a shit turn the whole western way of life thing is objectively the best

No doubt. I'd take the US over China or Russia pretty much any day, but Trump is seriously pushing the limit of "the western way of life" with his war on media and all the other objectively oppressive and regressive policies he's pushing through. I still don't see him as anything other than a TV celebrity, and a lot of people I've spoken to see it no differently. He isn't respected by a majority of his constituents, or by a lot of (important allied) foreigners.
What I'm worried about is that if he and the GOP gets their way, the US will no longer fit the description of "the western way of life", nor be a contender on the global scale, what with China pushing green tech, US pushing fucking coal (modern 200 years ago) which is on a lot of minds atm, and the rather sharp turns the US has been taking since the election.
I'm not a godly man, but I'm praying the Russia scandal gets results and a rapid impeachment of both Trump and the traitors that put him where he is, and a refurbishing of the US internal politics.

The idea of USA being some kind of ideal representation of that "western way of life" really should go away from people's heads. USA really isn't that great anymore as their politicians like to claim. They should open their eyes and look over the borders a bit. Trump is not the cause, he is a symptom.
It was inevitable, at the rate China is growing is anyone surprised?
:what:
The US manages to be one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, yet socially puritanical and stagnant with half the population insisting that they simply just don't change.
You see this very prominently with issues such as healthcare. It's one of the few first world countries that doesn't have universal healthcare.
China also isn't lead by a screaming manbaby who shits all over lucrative business opportunities.
On the other hand, try having a civil discussion with them about the South China Sea, inviting the Dalai Lama for tea or Taiwan to see their true colors shine forth. :v:

Look over the borders at what exactly? A country struggling with similar but not as extreme issues as our own or Mexico, the true beacon of the 'western' way of life

With Donald 'Don't do it Vladimir >:(' Trump in office it might as well already be the only superpower in the world
