• Whats the best technique for putting on thermal paste?

Every video I see people choose spreading it but in the comments they say that it will create gas bubbles. So whats a better technique, line, X, spiral, or circle?
I usually just put few dots in the middle, cooler smoothens it down anyway
Use a pea sized amount in the centre, and smooth it with a card. Easy.
I usually do a single diagonal line then let the heatsink spread it, circles/squares/multiple lines are bad because they trap air bubbles.
I prefer to use this Mainly because the fact that it includes a brush makes it super-easy to get a really thin layer onto the surface of the chip, without worrying about bubbles. Not to mention it comes with enough grease to properly cover no less than 6 CPUs :v:
Use a pea sized amount in the centre, and smooth it with a card. Easy.
This is what I've done all the time. I usually use an old library card or sometimes even my ID. :v:
I always do the middle dot.
Probably dot, like everyone else has said.
Use a pea sized amount in the centre, and smooth it with a card. Easy.
Common misconception. A pea is way to big a size for thermal paste
This thread explains why my CPU isn't getting as cool as it should. I put a few milimeters of coolpaste in a thick layer all over the CPU.
Paste is there just to fill in the tiny gaps between the cpu and the cooler, basically if both the CPU HS and cooler were totally flat using paste would result in worse connection [editline]07:37PM[/editline] There's usually not even big difference on what paste and how you use it, I remember so guy doing bunch of test and strawberry jam was only like 5c hotter than thermal paste
Middle blob is best as long as you're sure there are no bubbles inside the grease sryinge.
I usually do a single diagonal line then let the heatsink spread it, circles/squares/multiple lines are bad because they trap air bubbles.
I heard that a line will make parts of it uneven and will not cool parts that are not covered enough or something along those lines.
Rice-sized chunk in the middle, then I spread it almost to the sides with a clean razor blade/box cutter blade. (The thinnest object you can easily find) Heatsink will handle the rest of the spreading.

Guess which one's gonna still be working? Their's a reason they actually market thermal paste.
I put it on in a big blob and push it around with my finger, then I slap the heatsink on and clean off the stuff that oozes out the sides. Works just fine :colbert:
just a small blob of mx2 in the middle does me fine.
