This is a little project that i started today, just for fun, and to see if i can do it. I had a classic xbox laying around it my house, and a bunch of computers I use for parts. I took out everything, and am left with an expty case to fill. Ill post pics as the project goes along, and it will take a while to complete, as I have a lot of custom fitting to do.
So a casemod? Sounds cool.

basically, yes. the only real hard part is going to be able to fit a PSU in that thing, but its possible.
Are you doing it as a micro-itx form factor? I know they have small power supplies for that.
You could also go the route that the xbox 360 and alot of other small machines go, use an external power supply. Those tend to only go up to 200-watts though.
Pull the case off the PSU so it's not as big, It'll fit.
so far, i have found an old mobo that will fit, and at has an intel celeron processor(yeah i know, its ooooold) and it will use that until I can but a better one. So far, I have fitted the power buttons by drilling out the old switch board on the front, and am now fitting the mobo in
definitely want pics of this. I hope you find a small enough PSU.

are you gonna buy anything?

Dear god no. It's a rosewill, and it costs $20. Just no. Unless you want a fire.

I'm against cheaping out on a PSU, but the reviews on newegg seem relatively positive.

Even NewEgg has a somewhat standard when they sell something (also Rosewell is a NewEgg Brand so you least have a good warranty/support).
It might be a rebrand LiteOn for all we know.

The Xbox PSUs are (mostly, I think IT's a slight pinout/Power-on difference) ATX Compatible, But they won't put out much juice
Reviews on newegg are hardly accurate, it's a rosewill PSU, and it costs 20 fucking dollars. I honestly can't think of a worse thing to do. He'd be much better off buying that one cheap coolermaster one, as it comes from a reputable company.

I don't think the warranty covers damaged parts from a short.
Also all the bad reviews are from retards if you actually read it, the reviews are all actually decent for the power supply (one stated he thought this was ATX, another said there was no power switch) and you can clearly see from the information and images what you're frigging getting.

Somethings are actually great for the price, hell I have a fucking free Free after Rebate (50USD, Free) Ultra 500W (from a good while back) and it works great with it being almost everyday on since Feb 2008 (but for power surges).
Also why wouldn't it cover a short if it's defective? Unless you open it, it'll be covered under warranty.

So 200W SFX Power Supplies should cost $150?
So 200W SFX Power Supplies should cost $150?
No but generally if a computer part costs the same as ~5 gallons of gas I will be wary about it's performance.

Like Newegg? Rosewill is Newegg's house brand. If you're not building a power hungry system (I'm talking tri-sli and C2E power hungry), Rosewill is a great choice.

Even if it's a 200W SFX PSU?

Consoles usually don't consume near as much power as most systems.

That's not the point I'm trying to make.

Oh woops, I didn't look at what you quoted. :downs:

A 200w PSU isn't going to be able to run much other than a bare-bones system; if for $15 more you can get a PSU that isn't made my a shitty company, why not buy it?
[editline]08:02PM[/editline]
When you're going that cheap, something is bound to go wrong, no matter the wattage to price ratio. You should get what I'm saying.
[/irrelevent?] I know for a fact that you can atleast run a VIA Eden, 2 HDDs and CD Drive off of 90W. Didn't even get hot =)
Small enough for ya? :D

Totally not useful for anything more than a Mici-ITX build or something of similar power consumption, but y'know.

It's a Micro system. Pay attention.
Or you could take the case off the power supply, like I said in the fourth reply to this thread.
What's so bad about Rosewill? I've been using the same 750W PSU for 2 years now and it hasn't given me any problems
Nothing is wrong with Rosewill. One person thought it sucked because it's a house brand, and that led to more people thinking it sucks, and that led to more people thinking it sucks, etc. etc. etc. bandwagon.
have a look here for components: http://www.mini-itx.com/store/ they have the slim harddrives/dvd drives, motheboards powersupplies etc
thanks or the suggestions guys, this project is still in the making, i Just need more monies for parts before its done
