[
The Piper Comache 260 carrying a married couple landed on the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 101 just outside Santa Barbara and a few miles from the airport, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer James Richards.
The plane's engine quit, and as the pilot descended, he lost control of the plane and landed in the southbound lane facing oncoming traffic. The plane struck two vehicles while landing, then spun and hit another one with its tail
-snip for hatred--
You could say it "rolled" onto t
Highways are designed just for these cases. They are designed for like a 737 to land in case of emergency.
thats cool I guess
You do realize Highways were designed for this, in the case of invasion they can be used as impromptu Airfields for military aircraft.
This is old news in a way. Planes using interstates as runways when having an emergency isn't uncommon nowadays.
Man, that plane landed on a highway.
Was it hijacked by Jack Bauer?

LAND THIS PLANE
[editline]09:45PM[/editline]
oh fuck you
Reminds me of GTASA.
I bet the pilot was flying high after he successfully landed.
[editline]10:11PM[/editline]
Not much to work with here.
It landed on the highway
:smug:
Oh cmon I thought it was pretty clever
how is that clever? its not at all
Looks like that Landing was a T(a)raffic Success.
:smug:
That sucks for the pilot for crashing a $100,000 plane but thankfully noone was injured badly
Ha this reminds me of Con Air.

Why didn't that idiot just slam on brakes? He could have easily avoided the plane.
Why didn't that idiot just slam on brakes? He could have easily avoided the plane.
Because then it wouldn't have been a cool and interesting video clip.
it landed on the highway
reminds me of season 5, episode 21 of 24.
My god, that would have been terrifying to be driving on the highway when the bloody plane was coming in to land on it.

This quite rare, the vast majority of highways are unsuitable for use as landing strips due to width and straightness, the central reservation, fixtures, grade and such, but occasionally there are purpose-built installations:

Yes it is, it isn't common in the slightest
Edit: Why does this post have funnies, I was grumpy when I wrote it and it's supposed to be serious
Reminds me of GTASA.
That's exactly what I thought of as well
That video seriously lacks "OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR" written on the mirror

That's common knowledge.
That's common knowledge.
So it was in Jurassic Park but the text made it even more hilarious.
I remember when this happened quarter a mile from me, a Cessna on the interstate that ran out of juice.
A helicopter landed in the same spot last week. :tinfoil:
1 out of every 4 miles of interstate must be straight so that the road can be used as a run-way during times of war or emergency.
Gotta love Nixon.

^not true, also, I think the Interstate system was built before Nixon
This happened very close to where I live and even closer to where I work.
"The landing happened at 10:36 a.m."
One of our drivers merged onto the freeway just before 11:00am and passed by the wreckage just in time to see a PLANE being towed away by a tow truck.
