American Football[Gridiron] could become apart of Olympic Summer Games by 2024
America’s pastime is no longer recognized as an Olympic sport, but the United States’ most popular game — football — could be on the verge of joining the international competition. The International Olympic Committee gave provisional recognition to the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) on Tuesday, taking a big step in American football’s attempt at becoming an Olympic sport, according to Alex Marvez FOX Sports. The IOC’s recognition, even on a provisional level, is a major step in incorporating football into the Olympics at some point in the near future. A vote on the sports’ inclusion as a full-fledged Olympic sport could happen as soon as 2017, and, if accepted, football could make its debut in the Olympic circuit during the 2024 Summer Games.
WOO (GRIDIRON) FOOTBALL
Is gridiron even widely played outside the US?
I'm pretty sure it won't, purely because almost no one else in the world plays it.

Quiet a few groups exist, just not as mainstream as Football in Europe. For example, several European and Asian countries have their own professional leagues.
The sport is being widly altered rapitdly due to all those concussion cases however
there are more knee injuries now form people having to tackle low
in fact it's just a dangerous as hell sport
but pretty fun to watch, I don't watch many sports but American Football is always pretty interesting
I've seen the CFL growing in popularity these last few years.
Also it seems like whenever the NFL plays in London the stadium sells out, even when the teams are terrible.
I love football so much, NFL, CFL, NCAA, I'd be glad if it got to the Olympics, I would only dread to see what it would be like at the start. With the international American football association/league which forbids college or pro Americans, they've still won it nearly every time the game has been hosted.
i think american football is pretty cool but wouldn't it be just like baseball in the olympics, with only 2-3 teams dominating the competition and america always coming out on top?
Think about the US putting together a dream team like that did back in the 80's. Fucking hell the US would be stacked so heavily in that event it's not even funny.

I know it wouldn't sell that much compared to an American gig, but I wonder what would happen if they go-ahead with the concept to have the Super Bowl in London.

People would lynch roger goodell.

But then you'd have to deal with the logistics of getting all the american flags and concession stand foods overseas, plus all the country singers.

British National Anthem: Riots in the US
American National Anthem: Riots in the UK
It'll always end hilariously.
Isn't gonna work.
Most people don't even know the rules of this thing.
Don't see why not as the Olympics is all about foreign Agendas being shoved down our throat,

There's going to be Rugby in the 2016 games though, which will probably hamper American Football as well.

Plus Rugby is way more mainstream and widely played than American Football.
when will hopscotch become an olympic sport
Read that as Gri-di-ron.
All hail the mighty lord Gridiron!
i doubt any of the nfl players would go with this. it's a sport that's extremely taxing on the human body and playing more games that could shorten their nfl career pretty significantly doesn't seem like something they'd be up for. the average career is already only 3 years and those players leave with very debilitating injuries.
a lot of foreign people like to poke fun at the pads being used but there's a reason for them. each time you get hit in football it's literally the same force as being hit by a car each and every time
Isn't the Olympics for amateurs only?
They should do it like soccer(football whatever), and only let each country have 3 professional players in their squad.
I'd really love to see it, considering I grow up in an area where college football is huge, but I understand that it's mostly just an American thing. Really sucks.

Nigeria, Canada, America, Germany, and I think Denmark would all be set then.
As much as I love the sport, I don't think it's Olympic material.

It's starting to get bigger in Europe, mainly the UK and Germany. The NFL is seeking to move a team to London(which will never happen) and they are increasing the number of London games next year.
I'd rather see Rugby Union (not just Rugby Sevens), that has a huge following and a World Cup so other countries actually play. Seems to make more sense plus I'd like to see the British Lions play more.

It's a non-sport here. Literally.
Well it will definitely be fun to see America dominate everyone, and the two other countries that actually have a team battle it out for second and third.
Maybe next Olympics we can have Australian rules football and do the same thing.

I don't think that even football players understand the rules of football.

Maybe a few generations ago.

Most Olympic football players are professionals. You're thinking about the age rule (only 3 players over the age of 25 are allowed per squad).

Wembley only seats 90,000 though in a nation of 63 Million.
