A fire which broke out at a building planned to house migrants in eastern Germany was greeted with cheers from some onlookers, police say.
The fire in the town of Bautzen in the early hours of Sunday morning destroyed the roof of a former hotel, which was being converted into a migrant shelter.
Police said some of the crowd tried to prevent firefighters from extinguishing the blaze, which destroyed the roof.
The premier of Saxony, Stanislaw Tillich, described them as "criminals".
Police suspect arson. The investigation includes detectives who normally deal with extremist crimes. No-one was hurt.
'Unashamed delight'
Only a few days ago, protesters in another Saxon town, Clausnitz, blocked the arrival of a bus taking migrants to accommodation.
They shouted, "We are the people", the slogan of the 1989 peaceful uprising which led to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany.
The director of the Clausnitz migrant shelter is a member of the anti-immigrant Alternativ fuer Deutschland (AfD) party.
Police in Bautzen said many in the crowd watched the fire and commented with "unashamed delight". Two drunken men were arrested after they refused to leave the scene.
The converted hotel was supposed to house 300 migrants.

In a further sign of anti-migrant sentiment, police in the Brandenburg region are investigating the distribution of leaflets urging "absolute resistance" against "foreigner invasion".
The leaflets, put through letterboxes in the town of Nauen, are the suspected work of neo-Nazis. They also give instructions on making firebombs and using explosives.
I seriously hope these people were arrested
This is Ultra PC back firing, I hope no one was hurt.
This is Ultra PC back firing, I hope no one was hurt.
how do you even blame this on political correctness
This is Ultra PC back firing, I hope no one was hurt.
I can argue that "black crime" in urban areas is caused by poor economic standing of the area and a lack of education in the area. and while that is true, it does not excuse the illegal actions of the individuals
how do you even blame this on political correctness
Umm... I don't know, maybe just the PC politicians that completely ignored their citizens when they did not want this many refugees? Democracy at work.
So... Is this like the Donald Trump comment about people cheering, or is this different?

Are you seriously fucking comparing this to 9/11 now?

I'm more thinking he didn't actually read the article.

That isn't democracy it's anarchy.
That isn't democracy it's anarchy.
If some people trying to prevent firefighters to extinguish a fire in an empty building with nobody even remotely in danger to show their government how they're not happy is anarchy for you, I don't know dude, were the Baltimore riots World War 3 for you?
can we all at least agree that cheering at people getting wounded, dying, and losing most all of their possessions is probably a bad thing
[editline]fugg[/editline]
No one was in them, they were being converted into migrant shelters.
oops :v:
I just think that people get caught up in politics and lose sight that everyone's a human being in the end, that's all i meant
can we all at least agree that cheering at people getting wounded, dying, and losing most all of their possessions is probably a bad thing
Yes but that isn't remotely what happened here.

People stopping firefighters from putting out a fire is pretty much the textbook example of anarchy.
This should be expected, when any government ignores the will of the people and allows millions of people from an entirely different culture to come settle and get free shelter, food and promise of work, while the country is in austerity, where many families are living on next to nothing and thousands are homeless, do you really expect people to stand by and do nothing?
The government must learn that they are only in-place to uphold the will of the people, Merkel has done exactly the opposite.

Ah, yes, let's laugh and cheer at something that could have crippled, maimed, or have killed people. That's democracy, huh?

And the obvious solution isn't to vote them out democratically, it's burning down buildings and stopping fire fighting services from putting it out.
Huh.

You should have seen the house of parliament when the uk decided to start bombing ops in Syria, people were smiling and chuckling to eachother when they were leaving the room
Understanding why people are upset is not the same as defending their actions. This wasn't a white supremacist far-right anti-immigrant christian extremist group, this was a group of towns people. What drives them to cheer a building going up in flames in a country that just a few months ago broadly welcomed immigrants? Just denouncing these people as racist monsters offers no insight.

It's in reaction on the governments simply not listening to the native population anymore, they just prefer to paint every single person who criticises them for this reckless and poorly planned immigration process as fascists and literally Hitler. Meanwhile, the same governments largely ignores crimes committed by those so-called ''''refugees'''', and especially in Germany and Sweden does the government take big precautions to make news that does go against the narrative doesn't get in the news. Hell, Merkel has even asked Zuckerberg to censor Facebook in Germany some more, so that those ''problematic anti-refugee posts'' don't go viral, like the Cologne Mass Assaults went. They kept that entire story under wraps for almost a week until it became clear that they couldn't hide it anymore since the posts made by the victims went viral on Facebook.
In the Netherlands, a town (Geldermalsen) protested against getting 2000 ''''refugees'''' dumped on their population of 10000. They tried every legal way to make the government reconsider the plan, but those attempts got all steadily ignored. They only changed their mind when the population started rioting and chairs and fences where flying outside of the town hall where the government officials were busy making plans for the asylum center which about nobody in that town wanted.
It's sad that it came to this, but it is clear that the native populations are fed up with how the current governments seem intent to screw them over.

Please stop with your assumptions. Some nazis do not represent the native population.

Actually a few of them were drunk. That information is pointlessly hidden in the article between 2 other stories.

Was this a group of Nazi's though? The article makes it seem like they were just people.

Okay but I don't see how this is relevant to what I said.

People who happen to cheer on a burning building for migrants. If that isn't right wing extremism, I don't know what it is.

Putting aside the fact that you just called a bunch of people nazi's for no particular reason, this is kinda my point. What do you think drives average people to "right wing extremism"?

Meanwhile, left-wing extremists are threatening the museum and the farms in another town of the region this is happening in, yet I guess the German media ain't telling you that, huh?
A translation for non-German speakers:
Open letter to Clausnitz
Dear Clausnitzers,
everywhere one reads that you are afraid, that you are insecure. You want a dialogue at eye level. On Thursday you showed, where your dialogue leads and we are happy to build on! We of the Antifa visited your village. A beautiful village. Even your local museum was much appreciated. Things can go broken, tractors can spontaneously combust - it would be a shame. Well, some of our other options would unsettle the population.
If you scare one more refugee, there will be consequences for you. We're watching you. Another attack on a refugee, a firecracker outside the property - and your village will be in ruins. We will drive up the price of your inhumanity as high as possible. Your hatred and your agitation will not remain unchallenged. We will not stand by the sidelines as you live out your authoritarian character. You live in a world in which "Being German" is worth more than being human. We will not tolerate that.
Dear Saxon police, In Clausnitz you have once again shown that you willingly execute, what the German mob wants you to. We did not expect anything else from you. You already showed in Heidenau and Freital what you stand for. By ignoring, connivance, downplaying and active support you promote a racist Saxon mob, which knows about your consent and strikes on a daily basis. You too will feel the consequences for your inhuman act.

Putting aside the fact that you just called a bunch of people nazi's for no particular reason, this is kinda my point.
Why is it so hard to understand? Building burns down. Building has a special function for migrants. People cheer because of that. People wouln't have cheered if the building wasn't for migrants. Imagine if the building was a synagogue.
What do you think drives average people to "right wing extremism"?
Stupidity. Right or left wing extremism is not justifiable in any way. If they are unhappy with the politics and the migration, they have more than enough ways to change that (look at the party "Alternative für Deutschland").

But it wasn't a synagogue.

Again, putting aside the fact that you don't know these peoples politics at all and there is no indicatation that this was an organized heckling by left or right wing extremists, you just decide that they are too stupid to know better.
