He’s referring to a PC Gamer interview from 2009, in which he described the simplification of Supreme Commander 2′s economy by saying, “the nerd in me died a little bit.” “It’s Square Enix’s property, so they’ll have to decide if that nerd comes back to life,” Taylor continues. “In so far as other RTS properties that I am capable of working on – and I think you know what I’m talking about, I don’t even need to be coy – I think that nerd is alive and well.” Remember, the nerd in question is a metaphor for Taylor’s love of deep, complex strategy systems. Add that to the phrases “RTS properties”, “I am capable of working on” and “I think you know what I’m talking about”, and I think we know what he’s talking about. (A hint: he’s talking about a follow up to Total Annihilation.) Of course, this isn’t an announcement by any means. In fact, when pressed for confirmation later in the interview, he returned to maximum coyness. “I can’t, I won’t, I shouldn’t. It’s just not an area I’m ready to talk about yet. But you can use your imagination, even though you’re not on the project. You’re welcome to use your imagination, your imagination will serve you well in this case.”
Wonder if it will be able to compete with Planetary Annihilation. Since that game, even though it is still in beta, is awesome. Smashing planets together will be hard to beat.
For now we have Planetary Annihilation at least. Personally I totally advocate the resurgence of traditional RTS though, there really haven't been enough in recent years.
I hope so. And I hope it has a equally amazing soundtrack as the first one.
[del] Uh, what?[/del] Total Annihilation franchise was bought by Wargaming, in July. [del]What's going on?[/del] [editline]9th October 2013[/editline] And Chris Taylor works for Gas Powered Games which are owned by Wargaming [del]What's this about?[/del] I misread it, he was referring to SupCom when he talked about Kojima.
I hope so. And I hope it has a equally amazing soundtrack as the first one.
I still remember the best part about that CD as a kid was being able to listen to that awesome, awesome music just by playing it on a regular CD player. I learnt how to mod and make my own units as a kid using Rhino 3D and Jasc Paint Shop Pro, too - it's one of the reasons I work as a 3D artist for games today.

I thought Planetary Annihilation was being made by most of the TA team and it was to be the spiritual successor? Edit: They even got the voice actor who did the amazing dramatic opening video to TA
the year is 20000 and the universe is ravaged by innumerable total annihilation sequels... what began as a conflict between developers has now escalated into a war which has decimated a million worlds
But we already have a spiritual sequel... ...and it's amazing
So, what, Taytay sees that PA is doing swimmingly, and realizes he wants back in on that? Don't get me wrong, another good ole fashion modern RTS would be awesome, but it can't possibly be TA related. I can already see the legal battle that will evolve from that. Plus, what could they possibly think of that can match PA? No other RTS in history has gone solar scale like this, they have nothing that they can match that with. PA is the future of TA and most TA fans already know this.
Hopefully i wont have to mod the game to be harder this time :v:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_Powered_Games https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Taylor_(game_designer) So there's absolutely no legal issues.
Thats not my point, I know they have the rights to it, but all it takes is one clever assfuck of a lawyer to say "I got PA confused with TA obviously this is an attempt at using our rights to the TA name for their gain" and buhbam legal battle that they can't afford.

The worst that'll happen is that PA will have to change name. That's it.
FUCK YES! I just played this game again a few months ago and I was wishing for a sequel.
TA was around before PA. The worst that'll happen is that PA will have to change name. That's it.
I know thaaaaaaaaat. I'm saying its unnecessary and stupid. [editline]9th October 2013[/editline]
FUCK YES! I just played this game again a few months ago and I was wishing for a sequel.
Go look up Planetary Annihilation.
now I'm more confused due to thinking PA was mostly official anyways, but I'm somewhat relieved and REALLY HOPE it doesn't look like plastic army toys glued to a beach ball because that was really offputting when I found out about PA
I swear to god Jeremy Soule better do the soundtrack again.
Personal favorite was always this - some truly epic stuff going on there. That said, I wonder what the guys who were making an OS version of the original game would have to say about this new development.
For now we have Planetary Annihilation at least. Personally I totally advocate the resurgence of traditional RTS though, there really haven't been enough in recent years.
I want a game like defcon, but more depth to it in some sort of way.
Solar Annihilation. The game where you can smash entire Solar Systems!
not enough, you can already rain destruction across the whole galaxy with the galactic war on planetary annihilation :yarr:
not enough, you can already rain destruction across the whole galaxy with the galactic war on planetary annihilation :yarr:
Yes but I can't strap engines to a star and hurl that at someone else.
Yes but I can't strap engines to a star and hurl that at someone else.
maybe we'll get that in the sequel/expansion(if there is one)
now I'm more confused due to thinking PA was mostly official anyways, but I'm somewhat relieved and REALLY HOPE it doesn't look like plastic army toys glued to a beach ball because that was really offputting when I found out about PA
Yeah, that's my beef with PA too. The overly simplistic style is really off-putting.
I'd definitely like a TA sequel; the style of PA isn't quite to my liking (not so much the cartoony art, but the significant planetary curvature would make things a bit confusing for me strategically) albeit it's still a worthy spiritual successor, and TA Spring seems to have rather stagnated in recent years (it's certainly started to run worse on my computer, despite no significant visual improvement and me running a far better PC).
I still have much more fun with the original TA than PA. Planetary Annihilation just isn't the same. TA on the Spring engine is all i really need nowadays.
I really, really like PA's style. The only thing I'm still not quite used to are the spherical maps. It's hard to wrap my head around.
