• Skype coming to Facebook
It ain't the first time Mark Zuckerberg has taken the stage to announce... something, but today's shindig is resulting in "something" that's a bit more exciting for the average user. As rumored, the world's most notable VoIP service is set to become exceedingly integrated with the world's most notable social network. Skype has just thrown up a teaser page for v5.3 for Windows (and v5.5 Beta), noting that Skype and Facebook will aim to provide "the best of both worlds." Zuck is primarily announcing three main things today: group chat, a new way to chat ("an easier way to find someone who is online") and Skype-enabled video chat. Oh, and the tiny, tiny fact that there's now 750 million Facebook members. What's notable is just how easy it is to fire up a group chat (or send transcripts to group members who miss out) and get a video call going using your existing Skype contact list. A single click is all it takes, and we're told that it'll be rolled out to everyone "over the next few weeks" in 70 different languages. The new chat design will be scalable based on your browser size, and the company made a point to mention that it'll be listening closely to user input in order to iterate as it moves forward.
Source: http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/06/skype-comes-to-facebook-and-facebook-comes-to-skype/ Goodbye Google+
Doesn't Google+ already have video chat?
Doesn't Google+ already have video chat?
Yeah, that's why.
I hate Skype
Doesn't Google+ already have video chat?
Yeah, but this is will essentially be a more clean setup than Google+, and there won't be any reason to switch over now. Now that it will have large group chats and video chat, what's the point in Google+ other than "Circles".
And then Facebook got jelly.
group chat? fuck yeah
What. I like keeping my Facebook and Skype seperate for many reasons, is a 'merge' obligatory or just an option like with Steam?
What. I like keeping my Facebook and Skype seperate for many reasons, is a 'merge' obligatory or just an option like with Steam?
I'm going to say mandatory. I'm pretty sure Facebook already tries to add your Skype friends if you use the same email for both.
I hate Skype
Why? It's really useful.
Why? It's really useful.
It crashes on me.
It crashes on me.
That could probably be fixed. I love the service, my friends and I chat on it all the time, and it's crystal clear so.
Why? It's really useful.
http://twitter.com/#!/gosuckadick REEEEEEEEEEAL USEFUL (User was banned for this post ("Trolling/Isn't learning" - Autumn))
if its mandatory then goodbye skype!
Does this mean I get to use Skype without using the piece of shit bloatware?
Welp, switching to Steam chat since they have relatively the same quality now. I don't use anything that is tainted by Facebook. RIP Skype.
I still need a headset

Yall are a bunch of cry babys bitching about how facebook is a disease or something
I honestly don't see this as being much of a problem for Google+, sure it's a minor issue that will make the transition period slightly more drawn out. However, most anyone who's "tech savvy" is already on +, or is planning on moving once they get their invite to work. Once all the nerds move over it's only a matter of time before it spreads via word of mouth: Normal Person - "God, facebook can be so stupid sometimes! I wish they would make it better!" Nerd - "You can just go to Google+, it's a thousand times better, a lot less clutter, and most all of the same features!". Two years pass and Facebook and Myspace are one in the same.
Well fuck. I have a ton of people on my skype friends list that I would not want to see. I really hope this isnt mandatory.
Yall are a bunch of cry babys bitching about how facebook is a disease or something
Facebook is a disease.
I hope this doesn't add my Skype friends to my Facebook friends list or something.
Skype and Facebook? The only two programs other then Steam and games I run most. :smug:
i think it would be a useful feature for families.
I'd call my friends up when they use it, other then just messaging. Gets the message across a lot more clearly and more sarcasm.

My voice is Microsoft Sam.
Facebook is a disease.
so is aspergers
I currently have Google+ and I already know when its out of beta that I am going to get all my friends to transition. Google+ is a lot more clean looking and isn't filled with a bunch of crap ads.
