EU referendum could happen if Conservatives win election

David Cameron has given his clearest hint yet that he will back a referendum on Britain's relationship with the EU if the Tories win the next election.
He said there will be opportunities for the British people to give "fresh consent" to the UK's EU membership.
Closer economic ties between eurozone countries "will give us opportunities for changing our relationship with Europe", he said.
However, he added he thought it was not in Britain's interest to leave the EU.
The prime minister has faced calls to back an in/out referendum from his own MPs, 81 of whom rebelled against the party line last year to vote for a referendum.
Some Conservative MPs fear the UK Independence Party - which has long campaigned for the UK to leave the EU and for the public to have their say in a referendum - could lose the party seats at the next general election if Mr Cameron does not take a more Eurosceptic stance.
Speaking during a trade visit to Brazil, Mr Cameron told the BBC: "I don't think it is in Britain's interests to leave the EU but I do think what it is increasingly becoming the time for is a new settlement between Britain and Europe, and I think that new settlement will require fresh consent.
"In the next parliament, I think there will be opportunities for a fresh settlement and for new consent to that settlement.
"There is a reason why. The euro is a currency with 17 different countries. I think, increasingly, one currency will mean one economic policy."They are going to change and that will give us opportunities for changing our relationship with Europe."

"I argue for Britain's membership because I think it is in our interests. If I didn't think it was in our interests, I wouldn't argue for British membership."

So it won't happen then
The U.K. should fight or whatever treaty the Switzerland got.

what

I'm assuming you mean the European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland) and/or joining the Schengen Area?
Yes, the EFTA. Those states appear more sovereign than full EU members, and can have a little more self determination.

They don't really need to be. Look at Denmark and Sweden, they're in the EU but not on the Euro.
Well no worries, I don't think that the conservatives will be getting back in after the election, and neither with the Lib Dems, ever.
Personally, I think that the EU has overstepped its boundaries in a lot of areas, and I don't like how all the economies are tied together, like the Greece situation.

It was clear that a crisis was bound to happen with them linked together from the start.

I wouldn't say that. If the Tories can hint of a referendum enough then it will knock UKIP out of the competition who were trying to replace the Lib Dems, which means it would be them vs Labour, and Labour aren't great
The UK will not have a referendum and should not have a referendum. Allowing regular people to decide upon something so important is a ridiculous idea and it's only being proposed because it will win votes from morons that would otherwise vote labour.

UKIP is a mess. It's BNP with less extremist bullshit. They genuinely think Britain is an imperial superpower like in 1800's.

Agreed, regular people generally have no fucking clue what the EU does for them, and seem to think we'd be better off without them (which arguably might be true, but who knows), and that leaving the EU will improve things for them (lol yeah sure).
They said they'd have a referendum on the Lisbon treaty. They lied.
Nobody is going to vote for conservatives for the next few elections
Sure, because he promised to:
A) Not cut the military ("Because the world is a dangerous place! -Cut- Oh look, whats up with Libya?"
B) Not touch the NHS (While making the biggest changes to the NHS ever seen)
C) Fix the economy (Sure, maybe after a couple of double dips but who cares about that right)
D) Make sure the poor don't suffer (While stripping benefits)
I'm SO SURE he'll keep his word THIS TIME GUYS

Okay, so name a few.

Somehow "you don't like it" is not a particularly compelling argument.
I don't want out of the EU and people are gonna vote to get out because they think it will solve all the problems.
