UN urges people to eat insects to fight world hunger

Eating more insects could help fight world hunger, according to a new UN report.
The report by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization says that eating insects could help boost nutrition and reduce pollution.
It notes than over 2 billion people worldwide already supplement their diet with insects.
However it admits that "consumer disgust" remains a large barrier in many Western countries.
Wasps, beetles and other insects are currently "underutilised" as food for people and livestock, the report says. Insect farming is "one of the many ways to address food and feed security".
"Insects are everywhere and they reproduce quickly, and they have high growth and feed conversion rates and a low environmental footprint," according to the report.

I'm sorry but
ew no
that picture :suicide:
He does have a point, though I'd imagine they'd need preparation to make them more appealing to the West.
Interesting idea, but I'd rather just stick to tofu and salad rather than insects if need to be, thanks :(

Eat me <3
I had this topic today in my exam, scary. :tinfoil:
If they processed the insects so that they don't resemble them afterwards then I'd probably consider it.
No.
Yeah no thanks UN, you have fun with that.

I'd be game, if I could find a source of food-grade mealworms and crickets where I live.
Dammit you westerners.
Insects don't taste that disgusting
I've tried fried mealworms in Thailand, it ain't that amazing. Its just crunchy. You don't taste anything disgusting.
I'd definitely be up for trying insects.
Ugh, i have swallowed my fair share of retarded flying insects, and my god some of them tasted unbelievably awful. No, i'm sorry.
Scorpion is nice, but that's an arachnid, so nope, sorry UN
id rather eat my own fried shit
They might not look appealing but most taste like snail and are packed full of protein so they are pretty good for you nutrition wise.
I mean we eat snails so why not other insects and bugs?

Pretty much every single petshop sells crickets and mealworms.

The french.
Plus If people said they are slimy and disgusting then why do people still eat oysters?

Yeah, but have you seen the conditions those things are reared in? Fuck no.

You're from Singapore, you can't understand the amount of disgust the thought of eating insects can cause on a western.
Let's say dog or human poop was healthy and part of the world ate it, you would still feel pretty sick just thinking about it.
I've eaten a few of those seasoned crickets, they honestly aren't too bad. It's like eating a smaller potato chip that was once alive.

Not all French eat snails, this is a prejudice. It sure is part of our culinary culture tho.

I dunno, they're good enough for my Lizard.

We eat snails? News to me.

I'm more inclined to say The Romans (old Roman recipes for snail I've found taste so much better than that over garliced crap the French spout everywhere) and good point, lot of seafood is less appealing than insects but we still eat it.
I'd rather starve
I have heard about this initiative ages ago, and I am up to trying it, but I still haven't encountered any edible insects being sold, so I couldn't.
It might be good.
Ever since I saw this edible insect expo on TV. I've had a craving for fried cricket
Worms and grubs on the other hand, that shit looks gross
