Because when played badly they feed enormously and when played well they disable arguably your team's most important player and put extremely dangerous invisible mines in key routes that can hamper your ability to escape and catch you off guard. Not really all that complicated, although I do enjoy the quote "reduce grown men to salty tears of bitter resentment and hatred" in response to a squirrel man :v:
