• Raising $10,000 in 50 days for a Film Noir series - Can you help?

Hey! You like films, right? And you like supporting your fellow Facepuncher, right? Right. So, can you help me and a bunch of other high school and college students, actors and artists raise $10,000 for a 13-episode film noir series in 50 days? Hopefully, you can. As the creator and one of the four writers of the series, as well as one of the actors, I can safely say plenty of work has already been put into this. I have been developing the project for well over a year at this point. And it's time to get things rolling. When police officer John Amadeus Jones investigates a distress call, he finds himself caught up in a string of violent cop killings. Jones barely escapes with his life, and without his hands. Teaming up with his old partner, the two delve into the world of private investigation in search of the man behind it all. Here's the trailer for the series: And as you can see at the end of the trailer, we're looking to fund the project. Because we're poor. The most money we've put into this is $35 for our Police uniforms in an online sale. We simply don't have the money to fund it on our own. So here's where you come in. Thanks to the power of Kickstarter, we have a way of gaining $10,000 to fund the project. However, we only have 50 days to reach that goal. Can you help? Fund the project. Spread the word. Let's make this happen. Any contribution is appreciated! Kickstarter Page
out of curiosity, where's all that $10,000 going to? because for an amateur film project, that's still kind of expensive(unless you dont have cameras/sets already)
Unfortunately it's impossible for me to even think of that amount of money. However, I wish you good luck in getting your budget!
out of curiosity, where's all that $10,000 going to? because for an amateur film project, that's still kind of expensive(unless you dont have cameras/sets already)
The money will be going to film permits, location reservations, more advanced equipment [such as better sound recording], and police liaisons, among other things. And it's being spread out across the 13 episodes. We're also trying to get this around as much as we can, and hopefully the Reddit submission helps that out.
My Nigerian Prince uncle wants to donate $1000, but he needs your bank account details and password though.
Hopefully some $10,000 dollar acting lessons.
Gee, thanks.
Dead flag blues? this series is already awesome
Acting sucks
The trailer doesn't look like something I'd want to donate to. It's not like I have any money anyway.
Hopefully some $10,000 dollar acting lessons.
or 10,000 one dollar acting lessons
to be honest the quality of the the trailer doesn't make it look like a 10,000$ worth project.
Money won't help your actors' poor acting skills.
here's some advice, film a pilot with the best you've got. Post it. If it's terrible, then give up. Bad investment.
not just to talk about the mediocre act by the actors, the camera work and editing isn't that impressive either. For a Noir series, it lacks that feeling. Also, yes a pilot would be nice
At the risk of sounding rude, you don't sound like you have much investment in the project -and for that reason (in the words of many a Dragon's Den star) I'm out Friends and family should be the first port of call for any funding efforts -whatever money they have, big or small, is the safest investment you're going to get in your film. From there looking at local businesses/locations and either trying to secure money or more esoteric returns (eg. permission for locations) I feel like I'm telling you something that you probably already know, but you haven't given me any indication that you've done this. I've got friends who banked their first short films by.. working in a bank part time and making on the weekend, compositors who worked during the day and made their film during the night -$10,000 is a lot of money to make a first film, regardless of what the hollywood guide to film finance says. Passion and time goes a lot further than dollars do, especially working with amateurs. You know someone with a camera, lights are fucking cheap nowadays, guerilla film making (while sketch) is an easy way around some of the pricier side of licensing -and blagging goes a hell of a long way. Make a pilot episode, then go for funding. If you make that episode and it doesn't work out/come together, you've just saved yourself and a lot of other people a lot of time and money Make smaller, cheaper shorts to build up a repertoire and become a better film-maker
THIS PROJECT WILL ONLY BE FUNDED IF AT LEAST $10,000 IS PLEDGED BY MONDAY MAR 26, 3:24AM EDT. Yeah no.
Not to be a dick, but, seriously? You want $10,000 dollars to make a film / series / I-don't-even-know called "No-Hands Jones"? That sounds like possibly the worst thing ever. And the trailer is terrible. The acting's horrible, and $10,000 isn't gonna change that. If you were serious about this, you'd have at least made a pilot or something. The trailer you posted proves that you've got the camera, actors and the software to make one. It seems like you're putting in the bare minimum of effort in order to coerce us into handing over $10,000. Which isn't going to happen. Sorry, but no.
If i donated money to all the people who write a thread asking on Facepunch, I would be screwed. Wait what happens if you only raise $5000, do we get our money back?
If i donated money to all the people who write a thread asking on Facepunch, I would be screwed
I feel the same way. By the way, I'm going to need some money from you.
This thread is going well. :v:
I feel the same way. By the way, I'm going to need some money from you.
Ok i'll right you a cheque of $5.2 trillion to fund a pie eating contest.
I need to raise $800 dollars guys, this new iPhone isn't gonna buy itself.

It's gone through several iterations in the past year, and has finally settled in. Sure, the trailer doesn't exactly do everything justice, but that's because one, we don't have a budget, and two, you can't even hear the actors for the majority of it. What exactly about the acting is horrible? What, is it worse than all the other shit on television these days? I've put plenty of time into this, and if we could, we would make the pilot. But the problem there is school and everything else. The footage in the trailer alone was taken from a whole bunch of shit that was filmed during late October, 2011, and late December, 2011. Our goal is to be able to do all of this during the summer. We simply don't have any other choice. The majority of our actors leave the state for college after summer, and that only makes things harder. To everyone cracking jokes and poking fun at every little thing they can - thank you. Thank you for ruining what I've been working my ass off to get started for over a year. I appreciate it. Obviously asking for help here was a bad idea.
If i donated money to all the people who write a thread asking on Facepunch, I would be screwed. Wait what happens if you only raise $5000, do we get our money back?
You get your money back if we don't make our goal, and we can forget this ever happened.
Of course asking for help here was a bad idea. This is Facepunch, we'll criticize the fuck out of you. But really asking for about $10,000 for donations to a film project most people have no idea what it is, is pushing it a little. But that doesn't mean most people don't appreciate what you do, so don't get down from a few jokes at least you put your dedication into something you enjoy.
i've seen much worse acting and the script looks pretty cool, but $10,000 IS a lot of money.
Personally, I would invest more money into it by yourselves, and then see if it's worth it before trying to raise so much for it. Acting lessons aren't really expensive, and if you decide to not make a movie, you will still get some fun out of them. $10,000 in 50 days with little to show and little publicity before you started to ask for money is outrageous.
Because you're asking the public to give you $10,000. If you can't handle the heat don't jump into the frying pan
op to friends "hey i have a genius plan. we can spend a little money making a kind of cool 'trailer' for a 'film series' that we will be 'prodcing,' except that we don't have any money to do so. so, we'll go online and try and raise a ton of money for it, then just keep the money that gets donated and never produce the film series!"

We'd be in deep shit for that from all directions. It's a serious project, it'd be nice if you guys could treat it as such.
