FINALLY, swenson deserved this medal as much as sergeant meyer
"6th living badass" Should clarify that he's "the sixth living recipient to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan."
The position occupied by the three dead Marines and the Navy corpsman had been overrun by the enemy, who stripped the bodies of their gear and weapons. The bodies were recovered after their comrades, including Meyer, braved enemy fire to return to the location.
I don't know about you but, to strip a fallen soldiers gear off of his body, you have to be a whole new kind of asshole.
I don't know about you but, to strip a fallen soldiers gear off of his body, you have to be a whole new kind of asshole.
I agree with you that they're assholes but what do the taliban care what they do to Americans? It's more gear and equipment for them to use on their next attack on troops so it would make sense they take our weapons when they have a chance because you know, we have better weapons than them.
is there a picture of this guy anywhere? I want to see him.
I don't know about you but, to strip a fallen soldiers gear off of his body, you have to be a whole new kind of asshole.
we do the same to them.
I don't know about you but, to strip a fallen soldiers gear off of his body, you have to be a whole new kind of asshole.
Or you know, you could forget stupid morals on the battlefield and not die.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ganjgal I can't help but notice it says "Heavy US/Afghanistan casualties" when a combined 13 soldiers died. With over 150 Taliban killed in the same battle, that's, by comparison, pretty light.
here you go captain swan [t]http://gamingill.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/medal-of-honor-warfighter2.jpg[/t] my god that would be disappointingly hilarious
I don't know about you but, to strip a fallen soldiers gear off of his body, you have to be a whole new kind of asshole.
Western troops strip dead Taliban fighters of their weapons and supplies as well. For the Taliban, they're being resourceful, for the Western troops they're seizing enemy weaponry. It's not a uniquely terrorist action to do that, it's pretty much basic military practice from the dawn of warfare
I don't know about you but, to strip a fallen soldiers gear off of his body, you have to be a whole new kind of asshole.
Why, we take dead people's kits in vidya games all the time.
When the military's suicide rate is higher than the death rate... yea, I'd say 13 is pretty deadly
that doesnt have anything to do with this tho

If it was a ratio like that, it would be extraordinary. It would rival that of, say, the battle of Long Tan with pure numbers. Although i tend to be more interested in Australian military history than anything else. But that happened back in '66, and it's only compatible on a level of insurgents against an organized army.
I find the way that higher level honor processes occur in the military to be very fascinating, medals of honor, appointments of admirals and generals, and the like.

It's the fight that Black Hawk Down is based on, and the actual events are pretty terrifying to consider. The book is pretty fascinating, too. A great read, if a bit morbid. According to the wiki article about ~20 dead coalition troops versus an estimated 1,500-2,000 dead Somalis. Jesus Christ that's terrifying, and that was in '93. Can't imagine how something like that would turn out nowadays.

Military should not leave their country, they should only defend. As soon as they step foot off their land and onto another country's land, they become an asshole.
