So I learned that garry's mod has no age rating since it has no violent content (All the content in Garry's mod is user generated) and this explains why there are so many kids playing it. My concern is legal in nature, and facepunch studios should be aware of this... there is a risk that people could take legal actions against facepunch studios since the company does not prevent violent content to be added.
Either prevent violent content to be added to gmod or ask The Entertainment Software Rating Board to add age rating because it would be a shame to see facepunch go bankrupt because of this.
The ESRB doesn't rate modifications.

By modifications you mean "sandbox physics game without any initial content that only allows people to create things using the tolls provided with the program" or "Mods" for the intimate (It's never actually being refereed as "Modifications" anywhere I looked).
Even if ESRB doesn't include them they should request it since there could be legal actions taken by players who feel that the fact the game didn't had one has caused a wrong in their lives and facepunch studios would have to spend money to right the wrong.
isn't esrb actually not mandatory, like, at all? I know one of those rating systems is required only if you want to sell your game in a physical shop, and even then it's technically not enforced by law.
Why do you feel legal actions would be successful? From what kind of experience do you speak?
Let's say a guy who has played Gmod for 20 years straight since he was 8 years old go see his doctor because he's suffering from addiction to violent video games and can't find a job. He's reclaiming money he should have been able to make have he not been addicted to violent video games. Facepunch would not be able to defend itself against this guy since they don't have any ESRB rating and didn't help prevent the issue in any form or ways.
I'm not Jack Thompson by the way, i'm actually trying to save Facepunch studios a lot of money and perhaps a few headaches.

It's not required but if something happens because you don't have it on your product you can be held accountable in the court of law (Hence why everyone else just go along with it).
Do you have a murder you're trying to cover up? Because Garry's Mod didn't make you do it.
