There isn't going to be an engine switch, Garry used a workaround for importing L4D content.

Not everyone visits his blog but that's not the point, the beta is likely to be released today rather then next month as initially estimated.

Pretty much, but I hope Garry gives out some keys to just regular players too :v:.
Well at least he's actually testing something before releasing it...or at least letting [i]other[/i] people do so. Sounds nice, but I can live with gm_mount for a little longer :)

L4D's engine is a branch of the Source engine, not an actual upgrade, it's a good thing that Garry's waiting for the next actual Source engine upgrade(possibly Portal 2) instead of upgrading into a dead end. He did say something about this on his blog.
Portal 2 is also a dead end.
Why do you say that? And even if it is, I'd like to goof around with dynamic lighting and props anyways.

Expect the next engine upgrade to be based upon Episode 3, since the Portal series is also a "branch" just like the L4D series.
Cue comments on EP3 being the next Duke Nukem: Forever, just so we can get them out of the way now.
