• Looking for a replacement motherboard/CPU combo for gaming

So basically, I've spent the better part of the day attempting to get my computer to boot up to no avail. Through troubleshooting with a friend's computer (mix and matching CPUs) , I've been able to determine with a good amount of confidence that both my CPU and motherboard have bit the dust. I had been rocking a Phenom II X4 955 but I figured I'd treat this as an opportunity to spend my tax return money on something decent. All I'm looking for is a CPU and motherboard that is A) no worse than my previous setup (the Phenom II) and under 300$. I'm not a hardcore AMD fanboy or anything so I'd be fine with intel or AMD combo. So yeah, to restate the requirements: 1) An upgrade to the Phenom II X4 955 + motherboard for it 2) 300$ budget is preferable but if you have something that's amazing for 320, etc, don't hesitate to post it. Also, I live in the U.S. Thanks in advance. Edit2: So basically I've narrowed it down to two main options, one slightly more expensive than the other. Intel one is far, far better.
Yeah I decided to go for the Intel one after a little bit of research. It was basically the above but with a 2500k rather than a 2400. Should be pretty nice.
There wouldn't have been any point in going to the 965 from the 955 since they're exactly the same apart from one bump in the multiplier that you could just do yourself. So you definitely made the right choice in getting a 2500K.
Yeah, the main reason I was originally going for the 965 was because I was only looking for a replacement for a broken part but after seeing the relatively small price difference (only about 80$) I decided to go for the upgrade.
