Before I start I'd like to say that I know very little about Linux/Ubantu. I have done some reasearch and read through quick start guides and such, and I've been thinking about switching over from windows.
I play lots of video games and the only thing worrying me is that if I switch to Ubantu, many of my games will not work. I realize this may be a ridiculous question, but would you guys recommend me (a soon to be college student, working and going to classes full time, who uses his PC mostly for gaming) to try switching to Ubantu?
I suggest you dual boot so you can use 2 Operating systems.
Also if you have not used Ubuntu before make a live CD so you can test it out.

best idea
Yeah that did cross my mind, that way I could learn it in my spare time. But I guess I'll have to wait till I have more of it or Ubantu will just sit there untouched
Considering that this is the linux subforum, I will take the liberty of informing you that you misspelled Ubuntu.
thanks :/ I've just always heard people pronounce it that way, sorry.
anyway, thanks guys.
oh, and that's not the way to pronounce it.
it's not a reprimand as much as it is an fyi.
I usually pronounce it Ooh-Bun-Too. I've also heard You-Bun-Too, but it sounds awkward and is not as common. Ooh-Ban-Too is flat-out wrong.
Anyway, try out the live CD and if you like it dual-boot. Just a word of warning, Ubuntu is pushing their Unity shell in the next release, which is essentially a giant metamenu (all applications and folders in one place) on the left and an omnimenu (the application's options that usually show up in the titlebar -- such as files, options, help, etc. -- are all in one place) across the top. Personally, I hate it. If you want a more traditional desktop, go for Linux Mint, which is built on top of Ubuntu and is arguably even easier to use.
Unity (Built on Gnome 3 in Ubuntu 11.04):

Standard Gnome (Fallback as of the upcoming Gnome 3 release later this month):

Technically, that isn't Linux Mint 11, but there will be virtually no difference.
