I currently have a 19" Acer LCD monitor and I have about a $300 budget to upgrade my screen. Should I go and get 2 more of the same monitors with a Display Port to DVI adapter or should I go buy a 32" LCD TV?
My graphics is an ATi Radeon HD 5770 so I can support 3 monitors
What is your current TV?
3 19 inch monitors. or 3 17 inch monitors.

I would only be buying 2 more 19" Monitors because I currently have 1 but I would have to buy a display port adapter
Three monitors because that's way higher resolution than a single TV and you probably get more screen.
[editline]03:44PM[/editline]
And probably costs less too.
Add a 24 inch monitor and use your current monitor in portrait mode.
Add a 24 inch monitor and use your current monitor in portrait mode.
I'm not sure if my monitor can be displayed in Portrait mode as I don't think it can turn on its stand to portrait mode
Get the 3 screens
Dont pay out for a DP->DVI adapter get one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320514083349&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I would say get the three screens, I have the eyefinity setup which I chose over a 32" TV, and it was the best thing I have bought for my PC.

So that works the same as one of those $100 Display Port Adapters and then just use VGA for that one monitor? I am currently using DVI for my current monitor so would I have to switch all of them to VGA?
And Macabee are you talking about getting something like Ajack's has?
Yeah, three monitors, even though a TV would be epic, it would cost too much for the price to performance. Unless money is not a problem I would go three monitors. I love my friends setup though, he has his hooked up to an insane 50 some inch TV. Its so epic.
get a big one then the same size one.
Like 23" then another of the same.
Something like this?

If I do go that way what would be the best way to set it up because my monitor doesn't rotate on the stand
3 monitors, you don't need DP->DVI, just get DP->VGA, the quality difference is neglible
3 monitors, you don't need DP->DVI, just get DP->VGA, the quality difference is neglible
Uh, no. What's the reason for settling for less when they cost the same?
What if I used my HDMI port and the two DVI ports for the setup with the larger monitor in the middle
[editline]03:40PM[/editline]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049
and two of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009210&cm_re=19%22_ACer-_-24-009-210-_-Product
Uh, no. What's the reason for settling for less when they cost the same?
They don't. DP->VGA can be passive, which costs less. But for DP->DVI you'd need an active converter

You have to have an active DP adapter.

I think you can only use these combinations for triple monitor on the 5770:
- 2xDVI + DP
- DVI + HDMI + DP
I'm not sure if my monitor can be displayed in Portrait mode as I don't think it can turn on its stand to portrait mode
You can. And I haven't seen a monitor that doesn't have 4 screw holes in the back. The current stand may or may not be on that. If it is, unscrew it and rescrew it after a 90 degree turn, or take it off, buy a new one and screw it on. You get the idea.
If I had more $$$
I would get this:

Any thing like this less then like $100?
This is the back of my monitor

This if you desk will let it.

Or this if you don't mind screws in the wall. It would look pretty awesome.

I don't know why they don't just sell stands that lay flat on a desk. It's really annoying. But I'm sure there's one out there somewhere.

Yup it works perfectly, and quality is still decent, also if your going to do portrait-landscape-portrait make sure that the height resolution of the middle monitor matches the width resolution of the outside ones otherwise shits gonna stretch

Ok thanks what about gaming wise?
Do games support 3 monitors like that?
I would probably get two of these for the side monitors:
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=Monitor+Desk+Mount&hl=en&show=dd&cid=10337954188989481465&ei=8BpGTNqoM43IyQW2zOySCQ&sa=title&ved=0CB8Q8wIwBjgK#p
and do I need to get an active DVI or just go Passive VGA?
Any resolution at or above 1680x1050 is going to look noticeably worse than with DVI, and the cable is also susceptible to degradation and weird artifacts like flickering.

So I am going to have to get an Active DisplayPort to DVI then
Argh so expensive
Can I run a Game on all three monitors?
and whats a good active DisplayPort to DVI?
I've got a friend with a 32" TV hooked up to his PC along with a 19" screen. The TV is mounted on the wall above the monitor and the display settings are set accordingly to let you go from one to the other vertically.
I've got three 19" screens and I wish I had a TV so I could watch movies and game from my bed.
Lol at automerge fail.
Anyway, if your card supports Eyefinity, games will be able to spread across all three monitors.
Ye but I am going to be setting up like this:
19 24 19
