Noire Studio Owes $1 Million To Employees Team Bondi, the Sydney studio that saved the worst year of its existence for the one in which it finally delivered L.A. Noire, owes its employees more than $US1 million, according to papers filed in the studio’s liquidation. It’s a fitting epitaph for an outfit slagged for shady employment practices and insider sniping that the Bondi boss was something of an insufferable martinet. That guy, Brendan McNamara, has the largest claim on unpaid compensation, actually, coming in over $US100,000. His other company, Depth Analysis, which created the animation technology that set L.A. Noire apart, is owed more than $US140,000. The studio is being liquidated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), and the proceeds will go to pay outstanding claims held by McNamara, employees and other creditors. Team Bondi, founded in 2003, released one game. fuck
team bondi is gonna get some visits from the bondsman
A friend of mine knows some people who work at bondi. She's amazed they ever finished the game.
no shit they've treated their employees awfully.
8 years for one game and then they close down? Australian game industry you so silly...
Such is life in the video game development industry [editline]3:31 pm[/editline] Why the dumbs? I was just joking
What a shame.
The reason games industry's don't work here in Australia is because the Australian government doesn't support it. Also Games publishers are kinda silly as well (EA)
I don't even see how this could happen... "We'll pay you once the game is shipped we promise!"
They'll never see that money.
They'll never see that money.
Looks like the government has seized the company's assets and are auctioning it off. Those people will get their money, but it could take a while and might not be the full amount they're owed.
I think the headline should be "Team Bondi closing down", as that's much more interesting. There was a lot of promise in what they were going to do next.
8 years for one game and then they close down? Australian game industry you so silly...
no actually it was just bad management
It's really a shame, L.A. Noire was a game I can easily say I've never played before. They could have been on to something, create other games that are similar but in different time frames or something. Add more features and free-roam and they might have hit gold. Imagine doing cases in 2010-2012 timeframe in NYC or another major city.
8 years for one game and then they close down? Australian game industry you so silly...
Australian Game industry is fucked. We've had so many developers get bankrupt, shutdown or quit. Basically if you want to be involved with games best go international like in America or Europe. The market is very harsh here.
Well, at least it was a good game. Would be a shame if your first and last game turned out to be a piece of shit.
So does this mean that they aren't going to do a PC release after all, or..?
No wonder the Austraila gaming industry is so upside down
Australia: the only continent where the market is as brutal as the wilderness.
.. And considering how brutal our wilderness is that certainly says something.
TBH I didn't like LA Noire that much anyway, still a shame that Team Bondi has so many problems despite having closed down but what do you expect when you treat your employees like shit.
I think the headline should be "Team Bondi closing down", as that's much more interesting. There was a lot of promise in what they were going to do next.
Except that's already common knowledge.
I think the headline should be "Team Bondi closing down", as that's much more interesting. There was a lot of promise in what they were going to do next.
That's old news
My mate got flown down from Brisbane (used to work for Krome, another Australian gaming company, it made Force Unleashed) to do some animating for Team Bondi on L.A. Noire
Well, at least it was a good game.
i thought it was a terrible game
Psh. That is easy to get in Game Dev Story.. Just do some contracts!
The funny thing is that it was really Rockstar who finished the game. Bondi had terrible leaders and I feel bad for its employees.
Opened up shop in 2003 and releases one game..? I don't know about the government or publishers but that just sounds bad to begin with.
i thought it was a terrible game
It had new and good aspects to it, but it could of improved in many other places.
Why the fuck do people expect the game business to be all fun and games?
