“In a legislative move to stem piracy, France has introduced legislation that would ban violators from the internet:
“Anyone in France who persists in illicit downloading of music or films will be barred from broadband access under a controversial new law that makes the country a pioneer in combating internet piracy.
“There is no reason that the internet should be a lawless zone,” President Sarkozy told the Cabinet today, as it endorsed the “three-strikes-and-you’re-out” scheme, which, from next January, will hit illegal downloaders where it hurts. Under a cross-industry agreement, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must cut off access for up to a year for third-time offenders.”
And there was a thread earlier today talking about the US wanting to police the internet. How ironic.
There is very much a reason that the internet should be a lawless zone.
For starters, it's the last one left.

I know there are pacts but those arn't exactly "laws"

Antarctica.
So I can mass-download everything I want with the first two strikes, got it.
Antarctica.
And Soviet Russia.
In Soviet Russia, music illegally downloads you!
"There is no reason that the internet should be a lawless zone."
That sounds... threatening.
*drops the bomb on Paris* Solution found. Now do it, for great justice!
They only said that they'd lose broadband access, does that mean they can still steal Crisis on 56k?
0.00001% Downloaded.
ETA: 99:99:98
Fuck the French.
Fuck the French.
Nobody likes them anyway.
Have another revolution, Frenchmen. The Dauphin would let you illegally download!
I don't get all this crap with "But downloading illegal things is good since it doesn't hurt anybody!"
Yes it does.
It does hurt major record labels and film monopolies, who honestly steal most of the profit from the artists and actors!
But still, hiding behind that "But it doesn't hurt anybody directly" argument is quite bad, that's why we got bad and virus-like copy protection schemes that hurt only the legal buyers, I've noticed that it's easier to install a warezed game than a legit game.
Fuck the French.
Yeah, fucking rude Frenchmen. :argh:
Yeah, fucking rude Frenchmen. :argh:
Yeah, I was in one server, and they said "dfsdjfshdfkjsd evilking aoasdhoasdhios" "What, in English please?" "No English, French server" *BAN*
...
For a language consisting of poo poos and wee wees it's hard to believe that french is considered the language of love.
most french don't even know how to talk english properly (and i've noticed this alot)
So i think, in the name of facepunch, that sarkozy needs to put a dick in mouth
His wife's dick
Well, this means less French people are on the internet. v:v:v
The French pissed off China during the earthquakes. There goes one of Frances suppliers.
Quick, let's go to France, hack peoples wifi and download tons of illegal stuff!
I just love how you guys are seizing the occasion to gratuitously bash us Frenchies for reasons that are utterly irrelevant to the matter.
I don't agree with that policy, I'd rather not have the government spying on me more than they currently do (:tinfoil:), let's just hope that law isn't ninja-passed and that we're asked for our stance on that instead.
I foresee shitstorms of unhappy internet users claiming they never downloaded anything illegal.

That's what Facepunch is about, if it was another country we'd find a way to bash it too, I'm sure. :v:

Haha, no more FPS without murder trials :D

*Pats the Frenchie*
Think of the horror for your average French geek! God I hope they don't bring something like this to the UK, I hate paying for music. At least it's possible to watch movies on sites without dowloading them (watch-movies.net isn't illegal except for the people uploading them to the host sites right? :D)
And Frenchie dear, people of FP will bash you for anything and everything, I should know :D
watch-movies.net isn't illegal except for the people uploading them to the host sites right? :D
I believe that when it's streaming media - and you watch it - it's legal, but if you actually downloaded the movie then I'm pretty sure it's illegal.
Edit:
That way, downloading it will give you more time to think about what you're actually doing - rather than streaming can start right away.
At least that's the way I think it should be! :D
It seems I'm the only one cheering at this news.
Good on them, the French finally got something right. (waits for poorly written arguments trying desperately to explain why piracy isn't wrong)

Idiot
I don't see how they would know you are downloading illegal stuff.
Unless they scan all your downloads of course..
Oh dear, or french porn sites will be blocked, all 4 of us cry in pain.
