This is the sixth edition of the FP Album Collab. Schmoe222 is letting me run this one. For those who are new, this is a collaborative album that is released for free. Each person or group does their own song, and the album is a collection of individual songs. Any facepunch member is allowed to submit a song. There have been five previous albums, all of which you can check out on the bandcamp page. The rules are pretty simple, and as long as you get your submission in on time you'll be good. Important Information The submission deadline will be October 14th. If there are objections to this date, say so sooner than later. The release date would follow the day after, or the 15th. If you are late in submitting, there is a good chance you won't end up on the album. Anyone can get in on this. Any number of artists want to contribute, it just means more tracks. Behold the glory of giant-ass digital releases! No covers or remixes! Not a lot to say really, no covers or remixes, we want original music from you. This isn't to discredit what people can do with covers and remixes, but again, we want original music. Only one entry per person/group. This one is self explanatory, but I'll explain it anyway. A big part of the album is to give exposure to as many artist as possible. Having an album with someone take up half the credits would be unequal exposure. Limiting a person to one song also ensures that you send your best material in. Only in submit music that you think is good enough. If you have to ask someone if it is good enough to submit, it isn't good enough. There are no genre restrictions. Feel free to send any genre song you want. All proceeds will go to charity or bandcamp downloads. This is still a free album that costs the listener nothing, but since people do donate we have a plan as to what to do with that money. Since there is a limited number of free downloads on bandcamp, when running low on free downloads the funds will be used to buy more downloads so people can continue downloading the album for free. All other money goes to a charity we decide on. Submission Guideline Format Your submission must be in wav format. This may seem annoying, but it pays off, especially when avoiding two pages of someone complaining about the inconsistency (happened with the first release). Be sure to export as wav, do not convert your mp3 to a wav. Also, normalize your track to -3db. This won't ensure that all the songs are the same level, but it will tone down really loud songs and turn up the soft ones and it will also make the mastering process easier. Labeling To make organizing easy, label your song [Facepunch Username] - [track name] For example, if I made a song called "Easy Baby", the format would be "Pepin - Easy Baby". You want to name the very wav file this, just not the song title on soundcloud. It is also important to use your facepunch username because otherwise there is no way for me to know who sent the song. If you want to go under an artist name, you specify that in a private message. Also, be sure to enable downloading on the song. Where to send Upload here http://www.sendspace.com/ and then send me the download link in a Facepunch PM. Please note that if you have it uploaded somewhere else as a wav like your soundcloud, you don't have to upload it to sendspace, save yourself the time and send me the soundcloud link. Also, with your submission provide me with a track description, the genre, and a link to where people can get to your music. Do this through a FP PM.. You can use the following template.
Description: Genre: Music Page: Lyrics:
Exampe:
Description: This song is about a long lost boy how found out his cancer had cancer and so he decided to go out of his way to find the cure for cancer. The story came to me one night when I was looking at the water, and I realized that negative was a recursive force. Genre: Soft Rock Music Page: http://soundcloud.com/pepin Lyrics: [insert lyrics]
You can take you description in any route you want. Try to write up at least a short paragraph for the description. If you can't figure out the genre, approximate, it doesn't really matter. This would be a good place to include your artist name. If your song has lyrics, please include them. This information will be used on bandcamp and in the debut thread and in the liner notes. Also, I don't want to assume where you put your finished music. Some people may have a soundcloud account, but they put their finished work on bandcamp. So even if you think it should be obvious, just provide the information in the message. Then what? Upon receiving it I will send the PM user a message saying I got the track. If your artist name is different than your FP name, please specify this in your message. If you want to send a new/revised version, you can do that. Do not send incomplete tracks. Track Collaboration If you have musical talent and wouldn't mind collaborating with with someone, make a post providing your skills and some examples and I'll add it here. I for example wouldn't mind collaborating with someone who can sing. Make sure that you can record whatever you advertise and in decent quality. Available Musicians
Pepin: I can do basic riffs and rhythms with acoustic or electric guitar. I can also do a lot with lead guitar including solos. I can also play bass and piano. I'd be willing to mix something if you were really having trouble. For reference, check my soundcloud.

kitthehacker: I'm down to do some vocals, guitars, bass or basic piano if someone wants. Here's an example of me both playing guitar and singing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qCY-uISHBc My guitar part is the one coming out the right channel. I also play the first guitar solo (although it's kind of crap). And the lead vocals at the end are me.

Whitewhale: Collab wise I can make electro stuff eg synths, basses and drum beats and general song mixing.
People Who Need Something
Pepin: I could use someone who can sing quite well send me an exampe.
Album Art Ideas The different ideas presented for the album art. Minor variations won't be put up. If you have album art idea, I suggest posting it. If we decided on the album art quick enough, the artist could also pre-make a back cover and liner notes, making it very easy to release the album on time. Keep that in mind, if we decide on your cover, be ready to come up with a back and liner notes. Reaching a larger audience The whole point of this is exposure, and though Facepunch is a big audience, most people feel the need to expand. The first way to do so is by posting the album thread on other forums, preferably active forums that would take well to these types of projects. Posting it on a forum about quantum physics would be cool, but it is doubtful that it would do much for exposure. The second way to get exposure is to try to get the album on popular blogs. To ensure both processes go well, there will be a compiled list and their contacts. For example, I will post the album on Facepunch, therefore I am the contact. There only needs to be one contact per form. Forums
Pepin - Facepunch Pepin - Homerecording Pepin - Ultimate-Guitar
Blogs and Magazines
HappyWombleM - Source HappyWombleM - XYZ
If you intend on trying to advertise somewhere, say so in the thread and give a link to where. If it is a magazine, or some alternative source, no link is needed. FAQ Q: How will the track order be decided? A: So far, it would be by a random generator, but I'm trying to come up with a more creative method. Q: Who will take over if you get banned/killed or need brain surgery? A: Schmoe222 will the backup if things go awry. Q: What is the best way to get a hold of you? A: Through PM. I should be pretty quick to respond unless you are unlucky. Q: Will any mastering be done? A: Yes, I will be level balancing to ensure all the tracks are the same loudness. That is all that will be done. Q: You forgot to add me to a list. A: If this is true, send me a PM and tell me what list. When you make a post regarding a list, be straightforward so it is easy to interpret and spot. Q: Does the song I submit have to be made specifically and only for the album? A: No. If you have a song you've already made you can submit that. If you made a song for a personal album, you can submit that. Also, make sure all people who own the song consent to submitting. If you and your buddy came up with a song, and your buddy doesn't want it going on the Facepunch album, do not submit it. Q: Is there a limitation on song length? A: No. CLICK HERE FOR THE OP PREVIEW AND TRACK LIST It is being kept in one place for convenience.

Already? Cool. I'm in.
Before adding this to the rules, I think that if there is a collab and you'd consider yourself part author, that that should count as a submission. Like there shouldn't be a track by Pepin and Person and another track by Pepin. Now, being part author would mean you came up with half the song, so people who just did the vocals, drums, or small parts wouldn't be a song author. If you agree with this rate me agree. If not and we should not care as much, rate disagree.
Already? Cool. I'm in.
Figured why not. It would probably be fine to move the date back, I'm just being a bit cautious because I'm getting hospitalized for seizure monitoring for a week October 17th. They said I'd have internet there, though they didn't say anything about internet blocks. I suppose I could always get around them with a proxy.
You could just do it like this. the "artist" of the song is the songwriter by default, but you can have a list of every participant and what they did on the "back album art" or the "liner notes" or some shit. for example GuyX - All Instruments on "SongX", bass guitar on "SongY" for the record just playing a bass guitar part, or any single part on a song does not have any effect on the songwriting credit, even if you played an original part the songwriter is the person with the core idea, and the lyric writer if there are any lyrics. Of course songs can be written in a partnership and credited as such if the two writers agree, and for those cases I think if there is a full on collab like that it should be the only thing said co-writers can enter.
I want in!

Oh, seeing as these albums are getting better and better, should we discuss how we could get this one to reach a much larger audience?
Oh, seeing as these albums are getting better and better, should we discuss how we could get this one to reach a much larger audience?
Post it to other forums, post it everywhere.
Count me in! (Excited for this) What's the group's policy on using your songs after the album? I get the feeling that new music is made for the album, rather than songs you already have, but how would people feel if one used their song after it gets published on the album? It's just that I'm writing for my own album at the moment, so would like to use my own song too.

Hey guys I'm here to ruin the feeling of the album again! PS. I would really like it if we could get a less... cliche album cover this time. (No offense fellas)
I'm in.
Oh, seeing as these albums are getting better and better, should we discuss how we could get this one to reach a much larger audience?
Come up maybe with a list of forums to hit. Maybe people can call say where they'll post it that way we know not to make two threads about the FP album on that forum and to know that we've got a forum covered. Pepin - Facepunch Pepin - Homerecording Pepin - Ultimate-Guitar And I just added a new section for this. I think it'll help out knowing how is covering where.
Sign me up, it's been to long since I did one of these.
I'll try to make one before the deadline this time :)
Yeah I'm in. I'm gonna do something more guitar orientated this time though. Not produced a live track in a while and I wanna get back into it. Anyone up for collaborating? I've already written about a minute of material. I'm hoping to get a bit more written either today or tomorrow and get it up to about 2:30, 3 minutes sort of mark. I'd like someone to write some lyrics and sing on it. I'll get a rough version of what I've written up this evening so people can listen and decide if they wanna help.
Now I'm confused. I thought hikula, Yur-ko, and Hakita were all the same person. [editline]5th September 2011[/editline]
Yeah I'm in. Also, if you want I could add a lead or a solo onto your song.

I've sent stuff to them before and it's been in there. I dunno if they'll do anything with this or not but it doesn't cost anything to try so I might as well.
Now I'm confused. I thought hikula, Yur-ko, and Hakita were all the same person.
Naww, we're all different persons. :v: besides i'm way cooler than those guys~
And it just so happens that they all make a reply one after the other. Anyway, I don't know why I do that, but I've done it before with others.
I will try and actually make a song this time, but not for certain, as when I try to start these things calamity decides to strike and renders my computer worthless for a few weeks. Let's hope it doesn't follow suit this time.
I'm in I'm in I'm In!!!
two ideas 1. extend the time after all submissions have to be in and pick out the album art creator before time as well as a concept for what the album art will be. this'll give the person chosen time to make a full set of art, liner notes and back cover included 2. have people include notes or lyrics for their songs. if their song has lyrics, they have to submit the lyrics and can add liner notes if they want, and then people without them have to have some basic liner notes and such, no more than a paragraph of course.
