To some people, Henry Kissinger, former US secretary of state under President Richard Nixon, is an American icon and visionary who helped open up China and laid the groundwork for Middle East peace talks. To others - particularly the anti-war group Code Pink - Kissinger is a war criminal, who orchestrated the secret US bombing campaign of Cambodia during the Vietnam War and helped despots such as Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet stay in power. That anger spilled over on both sides on Thursday when Code Pink protesters disrupted a US Senate hearing in Washington DC shouting "Arrest Henry Kissinger for War Crimes" just as the 91-year-old former diplomat - wearing a sling on his arm - was about to testify on global challenges and national security strategy. McCain, who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam from 1967 to 1973, then referred to the the Code Pink protesters as "low-life scum" to scattered applause from the hearing room. He later issued a press release saying Kissinger had been "physically threatened" by the protesters. I'm glad these thugs got told off. Video:
If by America's greatest diplomat you mean Machiavellian schemer, then yes The guy's behind numerous war crimes in South Asia and South America, as well as sabotaging the Paris Peace Accords. American political establishment has this huge unwarranted boner for this man, and it's completely unjustified [editline]30th January 2015[/editline] Also is calling them an anarchist group instead of an anti-war group (which is what they are) supposed to be some kind of smear or something
He had a key role in the U.S sponsor of the military juntas in Chile and Argentina so he can fuck off for all i care.
how were they thugs in any way
how were they thugs in any way
Republicans really love this word for some reason
how were they thugs in any way
They were all skinny, fairly well dressed, middle aged white people. That IS the definition of thug.
They were being pretty rude.
Arrest Henry Kissinger for waaaaaar crimes
Also is calling them an anarchist group instead of an anti-war group (which is what they are) supposed to be some kind of smear or something
That's on the OP, the article doesn't say that at all.
That's on the OP, the article doesn't say that at all.
It was directed AT the op
You're a retard if you describe code pink as "thugs", "low life scum", or an "anarchist group".
It was directed AT the op
Just making sure, sorry about that. You would be surprised at the amount of people who don't read the full articles. Also hoping for a mod to change the title.
He's a dickhead, Code Pink are dickheads, what else is new.
Just making sure, sorry about that. You would be surprised at the amount of people who don't read the full articles. Also hoping for a mod to change the title.
After recent events, I'm completely convinced the majority of people here don't read the articles at all. People are making outright false titles now.
When is saying that a war criminal should be arrested for war crimes "threatening"? And how does it make you a thug? Or an anarchist group? Or really anything else for that matter. I really don't get it.
Code Pink are stupid, but they're not anarchists. I don't get how being anti-war = anarchy. What retarded logic is that.
Hate to bring this up just like the rest of the posts but there's so much wrong with this video. OP names the people in the article "Anarchists" probably without any understanding of what anarchist even means. Threatening? Are you serious
Every time I'm reminded that Kissinger is still alive I lose a little more hope.
You're a retard if you describe code pink as "thugs", "low life scum", or an "anarchist group".
They're about as opposed to American values as you can get. They support extremely strict gun control, support an isolationist foreign policy, oppose Israel and wouldn't lift a finger to help our Kurdish allies. Only a fool sees the world so black and white. Saying that conflict is "never" a solution is just as foolish as saying conflict is "always" the solution. There are simply some groups that cannot be reasoned with and should not be reasoned with.
How is Kissinger still alive? this guy was old as fuck in the 60s and it's 2015 now. How has he outlived everyone else from that era?
Wait, is it really that easy to just walk into a Senate hearing? We're the country that asked other countries to alter their street patterns so our convoy can shoot through without stopping, where our leader rides around in a tank on four wheels, and yet people can just run right up to his house, fly drones around his yard, and walk right into the heart of our legislator? The fuck?
Why are you rating me "dumb?" (User was banned for this post ("Posting just to complain about ratings" - Big Dumb American))
code pink more like code stink hes like 90 years old ffs what would putting him in jail even accomplish
code pink more like code stink hes like 90 years old ffs what would putting him in jail even accomplish
Punishing him? Clearly if you get to 90 all of your crimes should be forgiven.
It is disheartening to see the reaction media outlets have to anything even slightly outside the narrow political spectrum in which neo-liberal politicians operate. Anti-war group exercising right to protest and free speech says war criminal should be arrested= anarchist thugs threatening people
Punishing him? Clearly if you get to 90 all of your crimes should be forgiven.
Sort of like those Nazi guards we had a thread about a few months ago? [editline]31st January 2015[/editline]
you do know those words actually mean something and aren't just alternative words for "bad", right [editline]30th January 2015[/editline] them supporting gun control literally makes them not anarchists
Perhaps anarchist isn't the right word. What exactly would you call them then? An extremist group?
extremist group lmao
extremist group lmao
In what way are they not extreme?
In the way that they are not Boko Haram or Weather Underground or the Red Brigades
