• Missing DVD Drive in BIOS and My Computer/Devices

Let me get my specifications out of the way first: Motherboard: ASUS P5k Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS RAM: 4GB CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66Ghz Hard Drive Space: 1311.8GB (three hard drives - no partitions) PSU: Corsair 520W DVD Drive: Sony IDE (unknown model) OS: Windows Vista Business 64bit SP2 Since a couple of days ago I've noticed that I've been missing my DVD drive. I first noticed this when I put in a CD and nothing came up on-screen. I proceeded to check My Computer to see if I could open up the CD myself. That was the point where I realised that the DVD drive is gone and the only DVD drive that appears is the virtual one, created by Daemon Tools. I restarted the PC to check the BIOS to see if it had been disabled. It didn't appear there either. I did some searching and found out that this was a common problem usually encountered after doing any kind of DVD/CD burning. I recall using a friend's DVD a few days ago in Nero, which I didn't even finish burning - but had in the drive. After doing some research I found that people deleted a registry entry to fix the problem. I deleted the exact entry that was detailed (I saved before any changes were made) and restarted. Nothing has changed. I have also visited the official Microsoft support site and found a link to download a 'Fix It' application. It reported that nothing needs to be changed, so nothing happened. What do you suggest I do? If any more information is needed, please ask.
Open up the computer to make sure the connections are secure to the back of the CD drive.
Open up the computer to make sure the connections are secure to the back of the CD drive.
I shall do this soon. I forgot to add that it's an IDE drive, so what kind of cable should I be looking for? Is it wide, big, small or what?
pretty hard to miss
Make sure to check both the data cable (^ picture) and the power connector. If that doesn't fix the problem then the drive may be damaged.
