so yesterday morning, my PC started up all fine and dandy except for the fact that my screen has a grey tint.
I googled it, but none of the solutions I've tried worked (I followed the instructions on this link https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/545mw8/entire_screen_has_a_grey_tint/ because it is similar to my problem)
and I tried updating my nvidia driver and reinstalling my video and monitor drivers, but none of those worked.
is there anything else I should consider, or could it be a graphic card issue and I'd have to get a new one?
thank you for your time.
grey tint is an odd description. Have you tried resetting the contrast and saturation settings on your monitor itself, or tuning them to make it look normal? Either of those being messed with could make it look greyish, maybe someone bumped the monitor buttons and changed the settings. Also possible gamma could be turned up in your control panel but that usually only affects fullscreen applications so it's probably not it.
Youll want to figure out where the issue is coming from, whether windows your screen or your gpu itself causing the problem. Try running a game in fullscreen, if it's still tinted it's probably not windows, could still be a driver though. If you can hook up a game console or your phone or laptop to your monitor and see if it's still grey, that will rule out the screen itself.

I know "grey tint" wasn't really a helpful description, but it was the best I can describe it as. (I would post a screenshot, but I fear that there will be no difference if the issue was on my end)
for the contrast settings, both of the brightness and contrast settings are default (I don't think I have a saturation option for my monitor), nobody bumped into it as I was the first person on my pc and the monitor buttons are on the bottom and a tad finicky that someone would have to press really hard to change anything , I don't think I have a "gamma" option in my control panel.
I tried adjusting the contrast, but my issue is still noticeable.
I ran a game in full screen and it's still tinted (not blatantly but my shadows are lighter than usual), if it was a driver then it would be already fixed because I reinstalled both my monitor and display driver (I even updated my nvidia driver as well) it could be my monitor itself as it's fairly old, but I can't hook up my game console at the moment, but I will try that later.
thank you for the advice.
Try to check your colour calibration settings in Windows.
Right click Desktop -> Display settings -> Advanced display settings -> Colour calibration

I messed around with it and I think it may have worked, I don't quite get how something like this would happen, but at least now I know how how to fix it, sorta.
thanks!

often driver settings can persist if you dont nuke driver settings from orbit. When you reinstalled the drivers (assuming you uninstalled them, restarted, installed them, restarted) and with windows doing its 300x200 awful looking driverless UI thing did you happen to notice if it was still grey tinted? *if* it wasn't grey tinted during that point maybe it was really the drivers. i think driver sweeper is still the best way to make sure zombie drivers are dead, if thats the case. If it is still tinted with drivers gone after a restart then it must either be windows color calibration somehow or the monitor itself.
hope this helps you figure out the problem at least
edit: nevermind! glad you fixed it (what i get for leaving this tab open for too long)
I know you already solved this, but I also had this issue after installing my 970.
Turns out this little setting in the nvidia control panel was the problem:

Turning it from Limited to Full fixed my problem permanently, when before I saw the setting I kept having to fiddle with the digital vibrancy settings, which would reset every time a full screen program opened or I restarted my computer.
So if you find yourself ever having this issue again, it might be this.

I did that just now and it is now fixed, thanks for the helpful advice!

I don't have this setting, is it a new GPU or a new monitor thing?

Ah. I guess it's not a problem, because i'm on dual-link DVI
