Here's the final choices
CPU: i7 3770K - runs hotter than 2600K but apparently it's better for certain things like 3D modelling and is only slightly more expensive
Cooler: Hyper 212 EVO - good cooler, everyone recommends it, and i'm not OC'ing madly so I don't need water cooling or anything
Mobo: Z77 V-Pro - I've heard good things about the UD5H but also lots of horrible things, I decided for a V-Pro over Sabertooth due to more features
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1x8) DDR3-1600 - the 3770K shouldn't have to require 16GB for a while due to how much of a monster it is, I can get another 8GB down the road
Storage: Western Digital 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM - don't need too much space right now, I have another 1TB Ex. HDD and can get more later
GPU: Gigabyte GTX670 2GB - Good all rounder. I'm planning long term SLI and apparently this card would work best if paired with an EVGA FTW, it might look a little goofy though
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 (black) Mid tower - recommended by a Steam friend. decent airflow and space and looks sexy to boot.
PSU: Corsair Builder 750W Bronze - swapped from a modular gold efficiency to a bronze non-modular, might make my life more difficult but i'm happy to cut some of the price off of this
Monitor: Asus VE247H 24" 1080p HDMI 2ms - Excellent monitor for the price and size as well as latency. Good for visual work as well as gaming
Keyboard: Filco Majestouch-2 tactile Keyboard - Figured it's time to convert to the mechanical keyboard master race. Brown cherry mx for the same feeling as Blue but quieter clackity clacks
Extras:
MX4 thermal compound - for maximum cool
Edimax 300Mbps dongle - because I can't steal my housemates' or family's hub for direct wiring
Compressed air - for maintenance
That should be all! ordering later today. I listed everything just in case I missed something important
As of what I know, hyper-threading does not screw with games, and can be disabled in BIOS if needed.
Hyper-threading is mainly used in rendering anyways.
-Noctua nh14 isnt really needed if you dont want extreme silence or overclocking.
Hyper 212 is good enough.
-Psu?
-Mobo: Asrock z77 extreme 4 or if you want to go a bit cheaper but drop tripple sli and ssd caching get a z75.
-Screen: you wont see the diferrence between 5 and 2 ms. Choose your screen by looking at it. Specs tell almost nothing these days due to widly varying measurement methods.
Also, Windows 8 isn't a piece of shit. It's just ignorant users who look at the extra tablet features and say: "OMG IT'S SHIT IT'S NOT MADE FOR DESKTOPS". It provides a huge speed difference (I mean like, it cut over 20 seconds away from my boot time. And everything just feels faster).
Also, I have it on my desktop & laptop. I think it's great! Go for it or install Linux (or hackintosh :v: )

I certainly agree on that Windows 8 is great, calling people ignorant isn't the best way of conveying "maybe you should try this". Sure, some people dismiss it without even using it, but some people actually just don't like it.

People are ignorant if they say it's shit without trying...
Everyone I know that hates it haven't actually tried it.
Thanks for all the help, people seem to be debating more about windows 8 than my part choice though :¬| I cleared up the OP for better readability

Good to know, is the i7 really that different to the i5 apart from that? Would I be hindering myself with the performance of 3D applications by using an i5 instead?

loudness I don't really mind as long as my pc doesn't sound like a lawnmower while idling/minimal processing, also i completely forgot about the PSU but it's there now haha
Thanks for the mobo/screen advice, I see a lot of people buying Asus monitors so i'll look into those

An i7 is superflous when it comes to games - you'll have to get one of the really expensive ones to see any real difference, and even then we're talking a petty few FPS. Better off buying a good cooler.

This. The only better gaming options run on the 2011 socket which have expensive CPU's.
Wasn't actually answered here yet, tri channel RAM is needed in the original i3/i5/i7 series, the more modern ones (sandy bridge, ivy bridge and presumably haswell) all use dual channel DDR3 RAM.
If you ever plan on streaming you should get the i7 if you want to stream at 720p (or even 1080p) smoothly.
This is almost the same as my build - I make youtube videos, and render almost every day. And it goes great, recording/not recording.
Recommends:
Getting the 2x8gb Ram, as you have more space left.
If Livestreaming, get an i7.

Post production (After effects/Nuke)
DOH should have seen this. Anyways: i7 might give you a boost while working with editing as after effects requires constant rendering (to actually show you the clip)

yeah i'm thinking 16GB as well to get a longer RAM preview as some of my clients use crazy algorithms to generate procedural graphics and my laptop can only render 5 seconds worth haha
my build has changed a number of times over the last couple days so i'll update my components in a minute
Okay, here's the final selection: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/NggU
I'd appreciate it if someone could have a quick look, i'll update the OP now with justifications

I for one at first hated windows 8 due to the fact it had a massive start screen thing, and I still hate that start menu thing without even using it. However I do like windows 8 and there is the option to get some kind of theme to go back to windows 7. It's not that I think it is bad for the sake without trying it, but my opinion stayed the same after I used windows 8.

Didn't you forgot the extra RAM block?

I'll buy another 8GB at some point in the future when RAM prices have dropped, i've budgeted my RAM and PSU in order to justify the keyboard's cost
I'm so close to ordering my parts finally, but I can't figure out the difference between a Corsair Builder CXM (modular) 750W PSU and a TX Enthusiast 750W V2 PSU
I've added a 670 in SLI and another 8GB Vengeance in the pcpp calculator and it came to 535W, bearing in mind i'll be OC'ing (but not to too much of a degree) Will i really need 750w or can I settle for 600w?
Also I swapped to a V-Pro because with a Sabertooth you're mainly paying for the thermal armour and less features, but I don't care about the V-Pro's wifi and the UD5H & extreme4 just have dodgy reviews, so really I can't choose the perfect mobo :/
I figured it out, TX just has better components/warranty and is lighter than the CX.
FYI, ram prices are just increasing atm
Finally ordered yesterday most of the parts from amazon, got receipt emails and all so everything was fine, but for some reason today I can't sign into my primary amazon account, and last night at 1:02am my orders for RAM and an HDMI cable were cancelled (not by me). I made a new seconday account and ordered both again from entirely different suppliers, I got receipt emails again but now when I check my secondary account orders page on amazon at first just the RAM was there but now nothing. Would my orders just disappear like that? I've changed my password a couple times for my primary account
This is all highly aggravating but thanks for the help so far
update: I rang them and apparently both of my accounts are on hold for background research since they sprang up out of nowhere and spent hundreds of pounds on computer hardware, kind of makes sense but still pissed off that they didn't even tell me, and an email that was meant to come through to me didn't :v: [sp]I changed my password six times...[/sp]
