Am I paying for commercials or the provision of cable?

I've been without cable for two years, so I decided to sign up for Bright House Networks (U.S. cable company) and after a couple days of watching shows like House and Secret Girlfriend I thought about something, what am I actually paying for? The service to provide the cable or all the annoying ads? House M.D. is 39-43 minutes long without commercials, and shows that are 30 minutes usually have five to seven minutes worth of commercials.
Anyone else feel this way?
You are paying for the service, but the commercials are what fund the shows. Your money just keeps your cable company in business
You're paying in the first place?

He means his parents are paying and he is sponging off them because he cant get a job because he's 13
You have commercials in 30 minute segments? What the fuck.
Commercials are annoying, that's why you get DVR

this
The money you pay pays for the infrastructure to watch the channels, the adverts you watch pay for the channels they're on
Less adverts in theory attracts more viewers, but more viewers watching adverts means more revenue. Tricky stuff.

No, I mean I pay some of the bills, which include the cable, internet, and phone. Also, I'm 17, working, in high school, and enlisted in the Army.
Voddler is going to make a big change in this shit.

He's exaggerating a bit. Hour-long shows are usually 45 minutes of show, and 15 minutes of commercial broken up into 3 segments.
pff the reason I don't watch tv any more because of shitty adverts

Not even exaggerating. Not only do have I have to watch the corporate adverts, I also have to watch the local, community made ads, since Bright House is more community driven.
I stopped watching TV, anything on it I can watch on the internet without shitty commercials.

Hulu has commercials and YouTube has them, so I'm not sure where I would do to see commercial free TV. I haven't been on Veoh in awhile so I'm not sure what they really provide.

let me know where i can watch tv shows on the internet for free, legally, and not have to watch any advertisements whatsoever. because hulu, fox, abc, nbc, cbs, comedy central, adult swim, and all of the other stations that have shows online have advertisements. even youtube has advertisements.
To OP: Ever noticed the, "Such-and-such is brought to you by..."
Yeah... Ads pay for the shows, man.
The real question is; Are shows made for ads or ads made for shows?
What are you really watching a show or Ads? Lots of people remember specific ads more then shows.
"Hey Dude did you see that funny ad?"
And then you can talk about product placement.
Here's a last one. They call it Programing funny how you could look at that another way.
TV sucks I stopped watching it about 5 years ago, I'll get a box set or watch stuff off the net no commercials.
ps. I've heard back in the day people payed for Cable not to have commercials and their weren't any, but my friend isn't always a reliable source you'd have to research that.
Ads are the necessary evil. I can bear them as long as as they don't keep showing the same one every 45 minutes. But even then you can use them for bathroom breaks or getting food/drinks, if you're watching a long film.

you're a bit confused..
he was stating how you can't actually watch tv shows AT ALL (on a tv, online, etc) without adverts, so no matter where you watch these TV shows there's gonna be adverts, mkay?
the only channel I know of that doesn't play adverts during programmes are the BBC, but that's because they're so fucking rich and they don't need other companies funding their shows.

Yes, you can. Ad-less TV shows are quite easily found on the internet, but discussion of it is a bannable offense here.

he said LEGAL
You're paying for the TV service, but if you like to think that the time you spend watching commercials attributes to paying for the service, then I suppose yes.

That was relevant, how?
Oh wait - internet tough guy

It depends per channel and show. Stargate SG1 on average, (I watched every episode on dvd, took a while) was about 42 minutes to an episode, while on TV they are 1 hour. So that's like 18 minutes of commercials.

It's kinda both. They are highly co-dependent. You can't have ads without TV shows, and you can't have TV shows without ads. (excluding the infomercials they show at like 6am)

They pay me monthly to finish off high school. It's called a Senior Bonus. Nothing to do with being tough at all. And stop agreeing with yourself, fully understand what I'm talking about instead of just thinking inside the box.
Comercials eh?
The BBC is where it's at.
That's why I like premium channels, no commercials at all.

I'm 19 and I'm sponging off my parents thanks to the shit economy and lack of jobs in my local area :v:
