F.E.A.R. was always one of those games that i feel like should have had a bigger modding community than it got.
F.E.A.R. was always one of those games that i feel like should have had a bigger modding community than it got.
It's really one of those games that can never age, gameplay wise. It's just as fun today as when it was released, especially seeing how amazing the AI is even today (I'd say better than 90% of the AI we have today)
From the link, damn it makes me wanna give FEAR another go
Just in time for my halloween replay of f.e.a.r :joy:
I'll never forgive F.E.A.R. for what it became.

I really hope FEAR gets a VR mod
Why hasn't the trilogy been remastered for current gen yet again?
because wbg are cheap fucks
Why hasn't the trilogy been remastered for current gen yet again?
They ought to just re-master Fear 1 and the expansions which coincidentally ended up being better than the main game despite being shorter.

Because otherwise, you wouldn't be saying that. And Extraction Point was just more of the same. Also the expansions aren't canon!
They ought to just re-master Fear 1 and the expansions which coincidentally ended up being better than the main game despite being shorter.
The expos were fun but not better. Extraction point is super rushed and dodgy. Perseus mandate was pretty good though.

A great warmup for csgo aswell, just fyi [editline]10th October 2015[/editline]
They ought to just re-master Fear 1 and the expansions which coincidentally ended up being better than the main game despite being shorter.
EP was ok. Kind of lackluster in quality, but the scary parts are good. Perseus mandate is... Ehhh.... Don't understand why it exists. The story is a mess. Fear2 looks like a B horror movie with the pacing it has (spooky shit here and there at first, middle of the game features a couple of WHATTHEFUCKAAAAA moments, near the end something or someone reveals the entire story about the evil in a couple of minutes, final showdown, cliffhanger ending) but has some pretty good assets, despite having terrible AI. Theres a part where you can literaly make a pile of corpses since they all walk in and you can just sit back and 1shot them on the head as easy as you'd like. Fear3 is awful. It has a favela level, no idea why, and its a huge mess. The coop is fun I guess?.. Theres a dude on youtube who analyzed all the games pretty well. I dont count fear online cuz thats a travesty.

I'd rather ignore the colossal fuck-ups of 2 and 3 given how bad the story went there.
F.E.A.R. was always one of those games that i feel like should have had a bigger modding community than it got.
I remember hearing something anecdotally on a forum at the time that it was very difficult to mod. Even with the released tools the Jupiter EX engine is apparently a pain in the ass to work with. Which is a massive shame since F.E.A.R. 1 is one of my top 10 favorite games of all time. It is nice to see people releasing mods for it nearly a decade on.
Oh no enemies that are actually tough what a shame.
They're not tough, they're bullet sponges.
Oh no enemies that are actually tough what a shame. I'd rather ignore the colossal fuck-ups of 2 and 3 given how bad the story went there.
Perseus mandate was crap. The levels were godawful. The enemies were horrible in every way. The story was absolutely bad. I honestly don't know the point of PM other than being a further cash in. 2 and 3 were bad, yes, but at least they had some merit to them. 2 had a somewhat interesting story, and 3 was balls to the wall crazy. Not sure thats good or bad though, but it still had some moments here and there that could save it. Pm on the other hand, nope. Its a good thing it comes bundled with EP and FEAR nowadays.
perseus mandate wasn't the worst thing ever but only because it had some of the best FPS gameplay of all time to build off of
The major issue with 2 and 3 were they just went completely off the rails. The whole military FPS fused with classic horror elements was perfectly balanced in the first game but once it became EVERYWHERE GHOST DEMONS it lost all flavour. Even John Carpenter couldn't save Fear 3, that's how fucking bad it was.

FEAR 3 is just stupid. [editline]10th October 2015[/editline] The teleporting fucks are stupid, the demons are stupid, the maps are stupid. The entire plot line is stupid.
FEAR 2 had extremely underwhelming combat compared to the first game. I remember the first time I played it, I actually set the difficulty as high as it would go because the game was so damn easy that it was getting really boring. I actually enjoyed FEAR 3's gameplay more than the 2nd one, but it still wasn't as good as the first game. I guess it's about time for me to replay the first one again. It has been a few years.

The AI suffers problems the moment you step out of FEAR into an expansion or any other game. FEAR also wasn't perfect obviously, but it still was miles better than its successors and expansions ofc. And I don't understand the problem with FEAR 2, excluding the ending and the whole infactuation bit ofc. It wasn't bad, imo. Technicaly, not as impressive, yes. As I said, the AI was much worse, but everything else was still there, and the scary bits played really well imo. As for FEAR3... I have no idea of what the fuck they wanted to accomplish with that game. Like, I really don't understand anything about it. It just looked soo nice for some reason... Lighting was pretty nice imo, and the whole feel of the game was nice. I even played multiplayer every now and then, and it was fun. And in regards to I_Forgot (to not make YET another quote), iirc, its easy enough to be played on hardest difficulty, and never even need slowmo. Still, one of my favourites.
FEAR 2 had nice graphics for the time but they also took out most of the dynamic shadows and the effects that made firefights so visceral in FEAR 1 weren't a quarter as good in FEAR 2. The effects were in the E3 demo but stripped out for the final game.
They cheaped out the horror aspect in Fear 2 that has to be undeniable. All jump scares no atmospheric horror sans a few bits in the school. Monolith seem to love starting a series in somewhat-reality and then throwing it into grindhouse mode. Despite their stiffy for weird tangents Condemned 2 was fun in its own way but it was so ill fitting compared to the first.
Why hasn't the trilogy been remastered for current gen yet again?
Because they know nobody will play the third. [editline]10th October 2015[/editline] 1 was a good spooky action game 2 was a good less spooky action game 3 is a piece of shit that's nothing like the other two and is streamlined for coop, killing any sense of atmosphere. [editline]10th October 2015[/editline] Like, my room was fairly hot when I played through FEAR 2, and the part where iirc you get an elevator working and take it up to outside and it turns out all that's really outside is all sorts of ash and pollution and destruction around you made me fucking pause the game and walk out into the irl cold night for like 5 minutes so I didn't have like a fucking anxiety attack or something. Meanwhile in ~F3AR~ I still haven't beat it because it's just CoDSP with bonus objectives, obviously designed for coop, and you can't backtrack at all. Doors just permaclose once you move onto the next ~okay we're going to throw a bunch of bad guys at you get ready to kill them~ arena.
