Whenever I start up DOTA 2 I get as far as the home menu screen and then suddenly it freezes. It might be my mouse and keyboard but I'm not sure because while I'm in the frozen state I can't use keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+Alt+Del or Alt+F4. The same happens when I load up Skyrim but the freeze happens at character customization. Games Like GMod and OMD work fine. The freezing sometimes happens when I am randomly surfing the web! Power does still go to my mouse and keyboard as the lights on them are still shining.
Any help would be greatly appreciated(I posted this on a few other forums but I had no replay) !

1tb Sata Hard Drive
8gb DDR3 1600 Memory
ATI Radeon 7770 1gb GDDR5 with HDMI
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit With Disc and License
System freezes often indicate a failing harddrive.
Check your S.M.A.R.T. data to be sure. I think the program "hdtune" can do this.
If it is failing you should replace it ASAP.
I bought this rig about a month ago, I hope the harddrive isn't broken.
The problem can be resolved easily with a manual reboot.
How would I go about checking the data ?
