• Copying a steam folder over. Possible?

So I just finished building my gaming pc, and now comes the long arduous task of redownloading my games again. But, I was wondering, would it be possible to just copy my entire steam folder to a external hdd, and transfer it over to my gaming pc. Does anyone have any experience on this?
I managed to do it, and it all seemed to work fine. When I went to play any game, it just did a quick update. But that was on a partition.
Yes it will work but you will have to delete clientregistry.blob and obviously make a new steam shortcut
You can either copy the entire Steam directory over and then reinstall Steam over the top, or install Steam and then copy the steamapps folder over.
Ok sweet thanks guys, where is this clientregistry file?

Every time I copied it over I never had to delete CliReg.blob.
Just get ethernet cable, make local network, enable "share" in your steam folder. Then you should be able to find that folder in your new pc by going to "My Network Places" as in XP. This would be faster than external hdd
Install Steam. Copy everything. Delete the file everyone says. Should be in c:\program files\steam. You may have to update your games but that should take no time at all. And you're good to go.
