In a video of the ordeal in New York on Chinese New Year's Eve, little Ho Yide is heard pleading 'please give me a hug'.
After running around for five minutes, Ho is then ordered to do a push-up in the snow by his father, who is believed to be a businessman from the eastern city of Nanjing on holiday in the US city.
In comments posted online, a man claiming to be the boy's father has defended his actions, saying his son was born several months premature and therefore needs to build strength and mental toughness to avoid developmental difficulties.
A woman who claims to know the family said the boy had 'received all sorts of forms of training since he was small'.
However, the video, posted on YouTube, has caused outrage, with many calling for the boy to be taken away from his family.
One viewer wrote: 'The child would be better off in care. This father is a monster.'

what's so wrong with this? they are making their child a stronger person. to crush the capitalist west.
Wow, at this rate the kid's gonna be as cold hearted as his dad.
Actually, being a Chinese speaker and having a little brother around his age makes me feel like shit when I saw the video
He had to be Chinese...
Jesus
Can't he just leave his kid in a forest with nothing but a compass and a survival knife like normal fathers
9 degrees Fahrenheit for any fellow Yanks in the audience

git de belt with the li'l bits o glass stuck in it mmhmm.
According to the comments, the parents weren't actually abusing the kid. They do things like this normally, and the kid is actually benefiting a lot from it.
"Duo Duo stayed in the hospital for two months after he was born. But since then, he was in perfect health and never sent to hospitals," the proud father said.
Besides, his strict family education created a miracle, with the boy's IQ reaching a genius-level 218, enabling him to advance to primary school, the father claimed.
Well that doesn't sound implausible at all.

So they weren't abusing the child because the father said they weren't?
ok case dismissed

Look at what I quoted.
Look at what I quoted.
You quoted things the abusive father said
You quoted things the abusive father said
If what the father said was a lie, don't you think the child would have been taken away already?
EDIT:
I'm not saying it doesn't look like abuse, because it does. But all we really have right now is this video and the quotes from the father, and the fact that nothing has been done about this.

Survival nights are cool at least, knife and a few matches and you're good to go.
My teacher made me do that :v:
Well the father has good intentions...

some of the worst things imaginable have been done with the best intentions
Well shit, I'm not sure if I side with Dr. Alan Grant or the father on this one. Of course this is brutal but if what was posted earlier is true, then some good has come out of it. Damn grey areas
Everyone in China does this. They are making a breed of super soldiers. You have to train them young.
If what the father said was a lie
If you want to take the father's claims as being true, then his son's alleged IQ of 218 is over 7 standard deviations above the mean of 100. Statistically speaking, 95% of the world's population is within 2 standard deviations of the mean. That 218 IQ would put his son in the approximately 99.9999999th percentile. I'm not certain on that figure (I know there are a lot of nines), but this basically means his four year old child is the smartest human being on the face of the planet.
That is, of course, if the father is telling the whole truth and nothing but.

I'm guessing that's why his dad is this cold hearted. It's generally a family issue that runs past numerous generations of parents pushing their kids to the extreme.
Lol they thing that getting an IQ of 218 is possible, the maximum is 300

Plus he's 4. This shit isn't going to make him stronger, it's going to make him have 0 personality and become a good-at-everything machine that doesn't know what fun is by the time he is a teenager.
They always do this, there is no need for frendel ratings, because it si China tradicion!
I wish my dad let me run half-naked through the snow when I was four, he just hit me and told me to get back inside. :(
Seems quite extreme but I do believe that this will make him a tough motherfucker.
My dad used to do a similar thing to me. except it was voluntary and he let me choose If I wanted to do it. he told me to go swim in nothing but shorts at the beach (I live in a quite cold area) I did it for a few years straight every day, even in winter. as a result I'm pretty resistant to the cold.

This happens in China, and North Korea, and a crap load of other places.
In Japan there are i think pre-schools that require their pupils to come to school in their underwear regardless of the season.
Dammit, son, why can't you be like Wim Hof?
This will make the boy very tough.
I cannot help but think that, given the option, he would not like to be so tough.

yeah it could make him pretty damn tough
or, ya know, dead
yeah it could make him pretty damn tough

It can, yes. Which is why I don't feel this is a good way to raise a child.
