• Need A New Laptop - $800-$1000

So i need a laptop (i was considering a hybrid but i think it's more of a gimmick than a feature i need) capable of running programs like photoshop comfortably. Being able to play games is a plus. I've been hearing different things from people. Some tell me to get a windows 7 laptop and upgrade to windows 8. Some tell me to just get a windows 8 laptop. What is the general consensus here?
If you are primarily interested in graphics, I highly recommend a low end macbook. I use Illustrator, Photoshop, and code with my 4 year old 13" beautifully. TF2/Garry's mod run nicely. It's not too far out of your price range, $1,100
Eh, i'm not much of a mac user and i don't really feel like starting. I was looking to hopefully get a lappy with 1080p display but newegg.ca seems to only have 4 laptops within my parameters, 2 of which are out of stock. OP: Look at Asus, Sager, Sony and MSI for laptops that are good quality and generally have good gpu's. (In the order I wrote them down.)
He said he's mostly interested in graphic design. That's what macs are built for. But to each his own
Most PC's offer more bang for buck in graphics design than a mac. But some people enjoy paying more for less performance. But each to his own. Note: I appreciate Macs for what they are as high quality machines, however on a budget, as long as the quality of the other machine is not shit, I prefer the actual ability of the machine at the task it needs to do over slidey slidey touchpads and shiz.
I wont argue that you can get more bang for your buck with a pc, there's no question about it, you can. I'm not trying to perpetuate anything here, but to me, the higher price is worth it for an operating system that meets my productivity needs better, that's all. Since he was around the price range, I felt I should let him know.
I'm not going to be using it solely for graphics design, but i do use photoshop from time to time and i figured it would be a good example of the average program i use. I guess i'll just keep searching newegg until i find a decently priced laptop. It doesn't look i have many choices there though, can any canadians here recommend another similar website? I went through tigerdirect.ca before but i had a rough time with their shipping so i'd rather stay away from them.
Okay i'm going to buy one of these... I'm thinking i'll go with that one. What do y'all think?
I've always had good experiences with Asus products, I can't say that I know much about lenovo, though. Might as well go with the better one unless lenovo makes complete crap stuff.
Lenovo is pretty good.
I've never bought a lenovo but all the reviews i've seen for lenovo computers are good so they can't be that bad.
Lenovo are pretty sturdy, I don't know about Asus though.
Lenovo are pretty sturdy, I don't know about Asus though.
I've had my asus g53 for a year now and other than the power supply jack breaking (slightly my fault) the overall build quality is pretty good.
Both Lenovo and ASUS are at the top of the charts on reliability over the long-term. I wouldn't worry about it.
I would go for the Lenevo, they proven to me several times that if i buy their product that i am happy with it.
I got the lenovo, i'm still in order confirmation limbo on newegg and it's annoying me.
I have the Y580, got it for christmas and it's fantastic. Only "problem" is the screen frame scratches VERY easily, use a fine cloth and you should be fine, just don't press a lot. It's a bit heavier than most, but for me that isn't a problem. Other than that, everything is great. Graphic card is pretty capable, I can run Metro 2033 at 1080p resolution (1920x1080) at normal settings, or to be more modern, Far Cry 3 at native resolution and high settings, looks great. My laptop had Windows 8, but I had several compatibility issues with games and really preferred Windows 7. No problems under Windows 7, I'll go ahead and find you the website for the drivers just in case (the ones that come on the partition are for Windows 8): http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073649 Also, one last thing: If you have some problems with your wireless adapter (disconnecting every 5 - 30 minutes) just uninstall the driver, worked like a charm for me (under Windows 8, did not have this problem with Windows 7). Enjoy! Need any help just PM me.
