• Assorted field recordings

I'm a sound designer/music composer/amateur foley artist, and I figured I'd share various recordings from my trusty Zoom H2 portable field recorder: It fits inside the palm of your hand, but don't be fooled by its size. I trust this thing's quality with my life. Here's a thread I've made in the past with more recordings: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=519871 I'd put these into media tags but it shows up as UNSUPPORTED MEDIA :( My backyard during the day: http://www.hailaeros.com/miscfiles/backyard.mp3 Our town's beach on Lake Michigan (I got right in the water and held the mic literally inches from the water): http://www.hailaeros.com/miscfiles/SR003F.mp3 Chimes on our patio (I placed the mic inside the center of the chimes): http://www.hailaeros.com/miscfiles/chimes.mp3 Last year's 4th of July fireworks from a good distance away: http://www.hailaeros.com/miscfiles/SR003R_1.mp3 And an older recording of more Florida rain with an awesome boom of thunder at 0:25: http://www.hailaeros.com/miscfiles/STE-032.mp3
they're nice, but you really need to filter out the low-pitch wind noises. a high-pass filter does the trick nicely (at least on the chimes one).
For that recording I didn't have my pop filter on me, and recording it on a windy day didn't help :(

It works but unfortunately it loses a lot of natural clarity that was only present in the original recording, which is why I do my best never to try to alter or edit them. The chime transient hits in that version have lost some natural decay after a lot of their frequencies were removed :( Thanks for the example though. When I can, I use a soft, thin dress sock and wrap it over the mic. It does muffle up the sound a bit, but the wind is gone.
