• Upgrading my Mobo/Case/ and possibly RAM

Alright facepunch, I have a prebuilt computer that I've been upgrading lately, and I recently upgraded the GPU from an HD4650 to a MSi GeForce GTX460 Cyclone 1gb, and I now want to get a new case and mobo, mainly because the case has terrible cooling, and my motherboard is gateway made with locked modifiers. My current specs are these: MSi NViDIA GTX460 cyclone 1gb Intel Core i5 750@2.66GHz Seagate Barracuda 1.5tb hdd 8GB of DDR3 ram @ around 600MHZ (Underclocked?) Stock gateway case shitty gateway mobo The current parts I'm thinking of buying: Case:http://ncix.com/products/?sku=53776&vpn=RC-942-KKN1&manufacture=COOLERMASTER Mobo:http://ncix.com/products/?sku=48014&vpn=P7P55D-E%20PRO&manufacture=ASUS Now, I don't know much about mobos, but if the ram is only at about 600MHz wouldn't the mobo automatically underclock the FSB? If so, should I just get some new ram like these? Ram: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=42745&vpn=F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL&manufacture=G%2ESkill&promoid=1306 Total cost of the above upgrades is $450 with ram, $400 without.
No, Your ram probably isn't underclocked. You read it as 600MHz from speccy. It is Double Data Rate, so you need to double that 600MHz. 1200MHz. And I think that it will probably overclock the RAM, not CPU. For my PC, it underclocked RAM to match CPU FSB.
Your RAM might be underclocked or overclocked, I've never seen 1200mhz RAM, it should probably be 1333 or 1066 (have you OCd your CPU via clock speeds - probably not)? That motherboard seems pretty expensive, and in the US at least, you could get a SB motherboard and CPU and a new case for under $400 that you're spending on that stuff.
No, I haven't OC'd it, my mobo doesn't allow me because all the modifiers are locked. Also, would it be worth it to just upgrade and get a SB motherboard and a new cpu? And should I stick with the HAF X? [editline]2nd April 2011[/editline] Oh yea, I'm in Canada.
Oh yea, its not exactly 600MHz, its somewhere around there, I can get the exact number tomorrow.
Why didnt you give us the exact number to begin with ?
Yea, sorry. I'll get it tomorrow, and update the thread. But since its in the 600 area, then I'm assuming its 1333MHz, but I'll double check tomorrow.
Alright, Shaedez sent me a build, and I'd just like some other people to check the motherboard out, heres the current combo I'm thinking of buying, http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.622014&AID=10592396&PID=3640869&SID=skim629X1198X27a184b388e492a430809d9fa89eabc5&nm_mc=AFC-C8junctionCA or theres this motherboard, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128478&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3640869&SID=skim629X1198Xdbd14e5cc7b87b68334c1880b8925791 And what kind of case should I get, Shaedez recommended me a HAF912, but I was wondering if theres any other better alternatives.
They're both CF (not that this really matters to you, as you have an Nvidia card) capable and have the same features (Though the cheap one lacks eSATA) so I would say, get the combo deal.
I'd go for the G43, and the HAF 912 is pretty nice, fits a GTX 570 without having to remove the HDD cage Also are you sure the G43 doesn't support SLi?
The only thing is, theres no reviews on it at all, so I hope its not a piece of crap. The i5 2500k and the Gigabyte together is around $410, would it be worth it to spend the extra $80 on the Gigabyte? Or should I just go with the combo.
Using the HAF 912 right now. So far I'm loving it, although the front panel usb ports don't seem to be working for me. (Yes, I wired it correctly. Yes I did so by the diagram in the mobo manual. The front ports are just faulty.)

Alright, I'll keep that in mind, I'll most likely get the HAF912 then. I'll go with the combo then, thanks guys!
Alright, so this is normal for my ram, right?
Getting my parts tomorrow! I'll update the thread with pictures later. and disregard the post before this.
