I remember there being a Minecraft project to recreate Middle-Earth as completely as possible given the source material available. Wonder what happened to that?

I am sorry, but I am a big opposer of "recreating stuff from movies and books in Minecraft". I am not saying that they couldn't look good, they certainly could, and there are plenty of "faithful" recreations of real-life castles and architectural wonders out there. The key difference is that they are based on real life buildings - or better yet just based on sheer imagination - but trying to imagine the landscape that was captured so in detail in the Movies and in J.R.R. Tolkien's own illustrations in a Pixel based Sandbox game just does not appeal to me. At all.
