I've never seen this done before, but I believe the idea is that he doesn't want to give him straight apple juice, because it'd make him hyper. By watering it down, it is diluted enough to still taste like apple juice but not wire him up the same as a full cup of apple juice.
That was incredibly adorable.
Also hearing him swallowing the apple juice was a tad bit weird for me.

Juice is pretty much as loaded with sugar and shit as soda. I have two nephews & a niece and any time they drink juice it's half water/half juice, it's a normal thing. It's not going to kill them to drink straight juice, it's just healthier than giving them a cup full of fruit punch all the time, and they don't seem to care.

When I was a kid, my parents use to actually do that to me since I really didn't drink much water at all and it caught on to me. I don't water it down too much, but I like some water with it now. Could be what they have been doing.
Also, I'm glad they at-least watered it down for my own sake since my enamel on my teeth have always been bad due to acids from drinking too much fruit juices at young ages . I have no clue what it would have been like with no water.
