My prescription ran out, and I can't get more. I don't want them for recreation, I have nerve damage and really need it.

If you truly don't have intentions to use it recreationally and it's a treatment that seems to help you then yah, get a new doctor.
Not to sound like an ass, but is there an alternative method to stopping the pain other than taking prescription pills such as surgery or physical therapy? It's best to stop the pain rather than just cover it up. That's just my view though. But yeah, if you must, find another doctor and see if he can help you.
I honestly hate pills. I would much rather smoke pot it helps all kinds of pain.
