• Microsoft Blames Google for the Suckiness of the YouTube App on Windows Phone 7
Microsoft is getting involved with the European Union's antitrust investigation regarding Google, mostly regarding the lack of information Google provides search engine competitors for indexing YouTube videos. But even more interesting is Microsoft's claim that their app is lacking because Google won't provide the Windows Phone 7 team with the necessary data for the YouTube app that the versions on Android and iOS have.
Second, in 2010 and again more recently, Google blocked Microsoft's new Windows Phones from operating properly with YouTube. Google has enabled its own Android phones to access YouTube so that users can search for video categories, find favorites, see ratings, and so forth in the rich user interfaces offered by those phones. It's done the same thing for the iPhones offered by Apple, which doesn't offer a competing search service. Unfortunately, Google has refused to allow Microsoft's new Windows Phones to access this YouTube metadata in the same way that Android phones and iPhones do. As a result, Microsoft's YouTube "app" on Windows Phones is basically just a browser displaying YouTube's mobile Web site, without the rich functionality offered on competing phones. Microsoft is ready to release a high quality YouTube app for Windows Phone. We just need permission to access YouTube in the way that other phones already do, permission Google has refused to provide.
What's that story about the pot calling the kettle black, again? Or the one about stones and glass houses?
Source: http://gizmodo.com/#!5788172/microsoft-blames-google-for-the-suckiness-of-the-youtube-app-on-windows-phone-7
Unfortunately, the same thing happened to the ZuneHD. Damn it Google, give it to us.
If real, who the hell cares MS? Google vs MS's search engine. Besides, who has a WP7?
If real, who the hell cares MS? Google vs MS's search engine. Besides, who has a WP7?
A lot of people
A lot of people
What do you expect buying into the newest mobile OS, of course the other ones work better because they have had years to be fine tuned. The same thing can be said about every Windows OS released for PC, not everything is going to work perfectly at first.
well google sucks now anyway
I do wonder why Google would give access to Apple and not Microsoft. Do they have some sort of deal?
microsoft filing antitrust suits lol
Google already fucked up youtube and now this.

I think it's funny that people say the Youtube app is good and "properly working".
Youtube barely even works right on my android phone now. It used to go straight to the mobile videos when I went to a YT link and now it just goes to the regular page, with no way to play the video.
Just use the app ?
I'd rather the link took me to the app.

The most recent update to the youtube player is fucking awesome.
Microsoft is just mad because Bing is inferior to Google.
well google sucks now anyway
baaaaw i can't get used to the new layout
google owns youtube they dont have to explain shit on how to index it to competitors "i'm filing an antitrust lawsuit against cocacola because they wont share the recipe"
Microsoft is just mad because Bing is inferior to Google.
If I recall, I remember reading something that Bing is becoming more popular, not Google popular, but it's getting there.
google owns youtube they dont have to explain shit on how to index it to competitors "i'm filing an antitrust lawsuit against cocacola because they wont share the recipe"
You do know that Google gave the necessary data to Apple for the iPhone don't you?
You do know that Google gave the necessary data to Apple for the iPhone don't you?
so? they have both the right to not explain shit to other companies as well as to tell only certain guys

If Google was like Microsoft, they would go "Lol, no Youtube for you rivalry platform" They provide at least SOME support.
I'm confused, if they're just as good, they can get the meta data themselves, and they can code it themselves. Do they really want to ask the competitor for help?
If Google was like Microsoft, they would go "Lol, no Youtube for you rivalry platform" They provide at least SOME support.
"some" support is not enough when you pay 150-250 for a phone plus outrageous data prices (and even get capped if you're on att). who cares whose fault it is, the point is that shit's expensive and things should work.

Google has their service and they are not obliged to make it supportable on any platform. They provide at least some support basically for product of their rival. Logical move would be to provide no support at all. To put this into analogy, Oracle could bitch at Microsoft for Word documents being a bitch to open in Open Office. Microsoft not only doesn't do a shit for this to work well, but in some cases in past they made the files purposely hard interpret with a third party program. I am not saying it's a good thing to hold up a support like this, but it's sorta what Microsoft always did, so it's a bit comical that now they are the ones bitching.
Let's be honest. Bing sucks.
Let's be honest. Bing sucks.
How can it suck when it uses Google's search results?
I'd rather the link took me to the app.
If you go to manage applications and then go to the internet browser there is a button to reset what program it starts by default when clicking on a certain link. Then the next time you press on a YouTube link it will ask between open in browser or start YouTube app.
Hey, microsoft? wheres Androids offical windows live application?
I don't blame google for blocking out Windows. After all, Google caught Bing hijacking their algorithm
I tried to open a .docx file on my android phone the other day. That was fun. Microsoft? Please support your software!!!
