"Snowden has enough information to cause harm to the U.S. government in a single minute than any other person has ever had," Greenwald said in an interview in Rio de Janeiro with the Argentinean daily La Nacion.
"The U.S. government should be on its knees every day begging that nothing happen to Snowden, because if something does happen to him, all the information will be revealed and it could be its worst nightmare."
What do you guys make of this? Do you think it's a bluff? That's a pretty bold statement.
I remember reading when Snowden went to Hong Kong he had distributed multiple laptops that had encrypted information on them to members of different press agencies. Like what Assange did, he said if anything happened to him the passcode would be released.
You would be surprised.
That confirms what I guessed. Snowden's got a dead man's switch somewhere. If he's captured or he dies, something tells me the information revealed is going to be earth-shattering.

When Assange did it he released a 1gb file for everyone to download and wait to unlock.
Snowden has a fucking laptop full of information. I want to know what's on those laptops but I don't want anything to happen to Snowden.

Whatever the matter. The US wants Snowden badly, in my opinion alot more than Assange was ever worth. The Information he is carrying is probably the only reason he is still alive. In a rather strange way, im anxious and scared for what he is carrying on the US. If this is as big as the above says, without sounding melodramatic. Could it shake relations in a big way?

obama's porn collection
Too convenient, for a guy like him getting this job and just able to escape. There was not even follow up interviews with his family by the authorities. This guy could be a double agent.
As much of a dick move as that would be; releasing dangerous information, (the NSA leaks on american citizens were justified; but spreading shit that could be leaked to genuine terrorists that risk actual national security is another story) I can't say I wouldn't do it if I was going to be punished to the extent snowden will probably be punished. It's probably going to be death or life in a military prison.

Its a dead mans switch. If he gets arrested anywhere, he is getting deported to the usa. He ends back here, he is a dead man anyways.

That's what I said...
Did Assange ever release that 'insurance' password?
I thought it would be because if Snowden dies, the US would be the #1 suspect, even if a meteor smashed him into atoms.

It could be revealed that Obama is the literal antichrist at this point and all that would happen is some politicians would say "we'll look into it". It has been revealed that the NSA bugged the EU headquarters in Brussels for crying out loud, and I've yet to hear shit going down from that. What exactly could Snowden reveal at this point that could possibly put the US in a more negative light? And who in a position to do anything about it is going to care?

What else could put the US in a negative light? Hell; that's what we were thinking before the NSA shit got leaked.
The rabbit hole goes to the core of the earth.

Why do you think this is about the US' reputation?
Why do you think this is about the US' reputation?
Because of the very first line in the quote that happens to be bold?
Is it bad that I'm afraid to give an opinion on all of this online?

Oh sorry, obviously it's about killing americans

(can't remember what the thread about that particular miscarriage of justice was called)

I think you'd be worse off if you were american honestly. But yeah it'd be interesting to see if you'd be flagged for screening if you were to enter the States

Yes, and do you think harm from information is limited to reputations? If I (knew and) posted the exact details of the president's security routine, do you think that's going to hurt the United States' reputation, or endanger its president?
Did Assange ever release that 'insurance' password?
I believe one of the press agencies that got the password ended up leaking the file/password.

Snowden could just as easily reveal all the same information by staying alive if he so chooses. The US government isn't going to let its information and reputation be held hostage indefinitely by one defector.
What I don't get is why he's hanging on to it in the first place instead of making it public. If this is evidence of serious misdoings by the US government, it seems inconsistent with the risked-everything-for-the-people narrative built around him for him to save it to try to ensure his own safety. If it isn't, then he really doesn't have any justification to release it in the first place and it could compromise his image as a whistleblower (diehard supporters on Facepunch notwithstanding).

I suspect it's probably a bit more than the president's security routine, unless you believe the only things Wikileaks, Bradley Manning, and our fellow Snowden released were politicians' travel routes and troop deployments.
The guy's a whistleblower, not some agent of the enemy.
It would have to be more information about programs he was contracted into, which means it's probably more information on the domestic surveillance apparatus or information about the military's Total Information Awareness program and how it ties into domestic spying. Either way, people should have known these programs existed a long time ago, all Snowden has done is confirm the stories of previous employees and whistle blower's with leaked documents, it's sad someone had to put their life on the line before anyone would listen, again.

Yes, I know. But I worry. I think he has a lot, and I think I don't know what all or even much of it is. I don't know what he can do.
