Displaying a Desktop PC onto a Laptop monitor with VGA?

I'm trying to hook up my friends tower to a Laptop with Vista to display his tower through the Laptop's monitor. The tower has a VGA port in the back, so we have the cable plugged into his tower's video card and from there into the back of the laptop. The resolution keeps jumping back and forth from the laptops normal resolution down to like 600X780 or something, but it's still displaying the laptop and it does it like every 5 seconds (switches back and forth between the normal and smaller resolutions) while we have the VGA plugged in.
I went into the monitor control panel or whatever you wanna call it, and I'm trying to figure out how to display his tower onto the laptop's screen but it keeps switching between those resolutions so I can take the time to look and figure it out. Can someone explain how to do it (The OS on the laptop is Vista).
Not possible, unless you disassemble the laptop screen and figure out the ribbon bar's pin selection for the laptop screen. Then you would have to connect the vga cord to the ribbon bar to make a connection. Your best bet is to download some kind of video streaming software to the laptop computer.
OH FUCK ME. It's only Output on the laptop. :(
I forgot.
Yeah, it's not going to be possible. You can always use like GoToNyPC or something.

It said on that site:
Now with Windows 32/64 Bit Vista and Windows 7 support.
Also it would be ironic if Maxivista didn't work on Vista :P
MaxiVista works fine on 32/64-Bit Windows Vista and Windows 7 since version 4. Please more information at http://sysreq.maxivista.com
We also release a version for the iPad soon: http://iPad.maxivista.com
