An 82-year-old man spent more than 30 hours on the M25 after getting lost on a journey that should have taken about an hour.
Dennis Leighton left his home in Windsor in Berkshire on Monday to visit his daughter 55 miles away in Swanley in Kent.
When he did not arrive his family phoned the police.
He was found early on Wednesday morning in south London. Police said he was safe and well.
A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "He got a little bit lost but was found safe and well in the early hours."
Mr Leighton's silver Vauxhall estate had been picked up on Tuesday evening by a police automatic number plate recognition camera in Dartford, only six miles away from his destination.
Police said they thought he may have spent a large part of the time parked in a lay-by or services.
There was no explanation for how he had spent his time but a police spokesman said he had not been "driving round solidly for 30 hours".

Alzheimers is a fucking bitch until you forget you have it.
I forgot I made this post, it wasn't that funny IMO.
I always feel sympathy for when this type of thing happens to the older generation, they just have the dis-advantage of age on their side.
What happened to that cure that the medical community was so proudly boasting?
30 hours on a of ?
He probably kept going around the M25 in infinite loop waiting for it to run out into a roundabout so he could turn around. The Dartford Crossing must have been making a killing out of him :v:
30 hours on a tank of gas?
You know cars, the amount of fuel that is consumed is affected by the speed.
When he did not arrive his family phoned the police.
That seems a little sudden, didn't he have a phone on him personally they could have called? They just resorted to calling the police straight away? He might have even been stuck in traffic.

Well I don't think they called the police as soon as the first hour was up.

You act as if gas stations don't exist there
I wonder why he was allowed to live by himself and drive.

As a wise man once said: "I may have Alzheimer's, but at least I don't have Alzheimer's"
