Investment firm Wedbush Morgan has suggested the PlayStation 4 will retail in the US for $349, significantly lower than the PS3's starting price of $599.
In an E3 preview note to investors Michael Pachter, analyst at the company, estimates that the PlayStation 4 has a bill of materials at around $275, while Microsoft's Xbox One costs around $325. As such, Wedbush is expecting the new Microsoft console to cost $399.
This is pretty exiting news if its true.
Oh, also.
Fuck the Xbone.
Missing a link to the source.
Interesting how the PS4 costs less to make but yet they claim it's more powerful. If this is true then microsoft are truly doing a terrible job.
Fat chance. The PS3 cost $1000 dollars in Sweden. (On release) Pre-orders for the PS4 currently stands at that as well.
Edit:
I am not talking about the placeholder prices you fools. I'm saying that there is a 99% probability of it not costing anything near that amount outside of the US.
I knew I was missing something lol. I'm such a burnout.
It might be the new kinect which makes the xbox more expensive.

The article is about the price of the PS4 in countries people actually give a shit about.

So the xbone is only like $100 cheaper than a PC I built like two years ago that can still compete with its specs? I guess te kinect and TV thing really packs on the price.

You do know that the pre-order prices aren't actually real, yeah?
They're just placeholder prices.

Well, it does say that'll it be $349 in US retail.
I do feel bad for the people outside North America in terms of stuff like this, they always seem to get the short end of the stick (especially Australia). This happens a lot in online sales too (looking at you Steam).

Pretty much. If I remember correctly, the original Kinect sold for $100?

Prices are okay now, it's just launch prices are hilariously broken usually.

Those pre-order prices are placeholders... This article is obviously referring the prices in the US.

No need to be such a dick, and Americans wonder why they are disliked by most people.

Pre-order, as in its an estimate and not even close to the real price.
How would these consoles cost even more than the ps3 at launch when it was the most expensive due to the blu-ray?
And now I'm thorn...
Should I wait for a PS4 or get the PS3 and use the Gaikai? There are a ton of PS3 games I want to play...
That seems reasonable, there's no real new or cutting-edge tech in either console. Sony *has* to price their console lower. Hell, maybe even knock a couple dollars off the prices for games too, or keep them at $60 if the rumors about next gen games being $70 are true.
With all the bad PR and speculation that's driving the core audience away from the X1, they have a golden opportunity for a repeat of the 5th/6th gen. They'd be wise not to waste it by going five-hundred-and-ninetynine-US-dollas all over again or something like that.

Why is the price presented in dollars then?

Yeah because this one guy represents all of us.
"We note that EA recently announced that it had no Wii U games in development, and it remains a possibility that the publisher will abandon the platform entirely."
But that isn't true though, EA announce that they are making games for the Wii U but don't have as many titles planned as they do for other systems.
Yes boohoo on me I made fun of sweden cause I'm an american asshole shame on me...I'll just get right on calling everyone a wahmbulance.
Edit:
I was kidding with all of this. Yes it was super mean.
I'm sorry.
I'm hungover.

They went with that price because of the weird CPU the ps3 had, and the blu-ray which was pretty new and extremely expensive. Now its just run of the mill stuff.
Sony seems to want to make the PS4 the "next ps2" in terms of success, and if I remember it right, the ps2 was cheaper than the xbox aswell.

Attack of the Swedes
If this price is accurate and there is a solution for being able to play your PS3 games collection (Don't think they've addressed this completely, have they?), I could justify spending money on it.
They said they'll try to use Gaikai to deliver pre-PS4 games eventually.

you give my country a bad name
if this is accurate I can't lie MS is pretty fucked unless they manage to release a stripped down version for $300

If it works nicely and make the ps3 obsolete, then I'm in.
Victory!
Again!

PS3's going to be super cheap soon so I don't see any harm in getting a PS3 and going through its back catalogue.
