A RADIO interview, a wink and a “draconian austerity” budget have earned Tony Abbott the title of “one of the world’s most unpopular Prime Ministers” from a major US newspaper.
The now famous eye movement prompted by caller ‘Gloria’ who works as a phone sex worker to make ends meet has gone global.
In an article which appears on The Washington Post homepage, the Prime Minister is accused of going from “one scandal to the next”.
It chronicles the ABC interview in which Mr Abbott was confronted by the 67-year-old Victorian pensioner and his reaction.
“Abbott, who took office last September, then smirked for the briefest of moments and winked — unleashing a tidal wave of criticism, tweets and headlines,” Terrence McCoy writes.
“This, of course, is nothing new for Tony Abbott, who’s quickly becoming one of the world’s most hated prime ministers.”
But the article doesn’t end there, going on to attack the government’s recent budget which it describes in harsh terms.
“He just unveiled a draconian austerity budget that analysts call the most extreme and least popular of the past four decades in Australia.
“His approval rating has plunged to 30 per cent.”
Mr Abbott has also been warned to keep his winking” out of diplomacy, with the infamous gesture now also making headlines in Indonesia.
Had to use a news corp source, oops
As an Australian, this is not surprising at all. Not in the slightest.
How long did they needed to realize that?
I hate this guy.
I would go as far to say he's the absolute worst Australian PM.
well he certainly looks the part. :v:

I think this is the Washington Post article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/05/22/how-australias-winking-tony-abbott-became-one-of-the-worlds-most-unpopular-prime-ministers/
I'm pretty sure Narendra Modi's going to take the top spot in a year's time, if my estimations are correct. But for now, Abbott's a good incumbent for #1 worst PM.
I don't know, he seemed like an okay guy from my one and only source of information on Australian politics:

If I ever get a career in rapping, I am so making Prime Sinister my rap name.
How did he get voted into office?
How did he get voted into office?
lots of stupid people in this country
I actually thought that we'd get rudd 100%, since most young people want fast internet but apparently i was btfo
hope the clowns who voted in this fuckwit are happy
How did he get voted into office?
For the simple reason of not being Rudd. People were annoyed about all the internal issues within Labor at the time (with the switching of leaders and whatnot), so they voted for the next possible thing...which just turned out to be our very own Prime Sinister.
My dad voted for abbott.
I called him a stupid cunt

Rudd wouldn't have gotten in by a long shot. People were sick of Labor fucking around with their internal disputes, his own office was divided straight up the middle because of his attitude and lets face it, Labor in their last year in office was an embarrassment for the Australian public. I can understand why people would have a kneejerk reaction and vote in the Liberals.
Mind you, I'm not saying that it's a good thing - I think Tony is a slimy bastard and I'm not proud of having him as Prime Minister, but really, worst PM in history? Pfft. Hyperbole.
To be honest, I don't know how people can think Rudd going another round is still a good option after the fact that he spent what felt like an hour giving a speech about how great he was when he lost the election. But then again, I seem to be privy to pro-Liberal thoughts since that is the ideal that I grew up with :v:
I liked it better when Julia was PM.
Meanwhile one of the least hated ones showing up at the nuclear summit:

Fuck, even as an American even I was quite unhappy to hear he won the election.

You vote for a blue or a red tie, there isn't much a choice.
That's the biggest fallacy of this piece of shit we call a democracy.
Two groups of greedy aristocrats who fucked and stabbed their way to the top, the good don't survive.

He looks like Michael Bluth.
I don't really know much about Australian politics, like, the one thing I know is that this guy is a cunt, mind giving me a crash course on why?
Well, shit happens apparently.

I think taking a look at some of his quotes may help you out in wondering why people dislike him greatly:
