When i press the power button, BIOS doesn't appear. and there's three loud beeps from my mobo. The HDD's are hot to the touch. Is this a simple overheat or have i wrecked something?
Check the manual of the motherboard; it usually holds the beepcodes.
In example, it could mean anything from a missing cable to a badly placed memory stick.
I no longer have the manual, I was replacing the RAM not long before it happened.
In that case try refitting the ram first, if you haven't already.
If that doesn't work, what kind of keyboard do you have?
google the beep code/ go to manufacturers site.
Tried refitting ram. didn't work. I ave an old dell i scavenged from my stepdad's broken dell after my keyboard died.
Provide your component names or at least manufacturers and we may be able to dispatch some help.
If it's old it might just have died, how old would it be?
Try looking for the model number on the board, you can google it for an online manual.
Three beeps and no BIOS sounds like a faily severe problem, at least I would think it to be.
Recheck all your cables, and see if there's anything lying on parts where it shouldn't be.
It could mean your graphics card is broken, too.
I uh. Have no graphics card. :v: It broke weeks ago.
I've managed to fix it now. One of my sticks of ram(or its port) had gone bad. This is baaaaaad news because i only had 2gb. And now i have 1gb. If i'm lucky i'll be able to buy some around christmsa.

I also keep getting this error.
It's the RAM. One of your sticks are broken. Put one in at a time and find out which one is broken. Did you smell burning silicone the first time you heard the beep codes?

Whoops didn't see above post... on my cell phone sorry.
For future reference:

I'm not sure if it's the port or the ram itself as i tried reseating the bastard before it "Broke" or maybe it was just seated enough and one of the pins was damaged/cracked and was held in place.
It's most likely faulty RAM. I get those all the time when I build computers.
I've had it for years so.
RAM can get unreadable/writeable after a long time use.
Electronics wear out at some point, they don't last forever.
