Hotel employee Essa Khan found the wad of $100 notes left in a safety deposit box in the room of a Japanese NGO worker at the Serena hotel in Gilgit. The 51-year-old father-of-five, who earns about 21,000 rupees (£153) per month, told the BBC that he never considered keeping the money. He hoped his honesty would portray Pakistan in a positive light after allegations of Government corruption and incidences of state terrorism. Hotel manager Rajid Uddin also told the BBC that there had been similar instances where lost items had been returned, but none "of this magnitude". Mr Uddin said the guest had been relieved when the cash was found. "He was naturally very worried as he wasn't able to figure out where he had lost the money," he said. Mr Khan has really shown that honesty is the best policy as the governor of Punjab has named him a 'national hero' and will hold a special ceremony in his honour, reports Australian newspaper, The Age.
Who forgets £33,000 in a hotel room.
What kind of ballbrain leaves £33000 in a hotel safe?
Would he really get away with it if he took it?
Who forgets £33,000 in a hotel room.

Hotel staff managed to track down the guest, who works for the Japan International Co-operation Agency, and return the money, which was intended to fund a feasibility study into tourism projects in northern Pakistan.
That's who.
This gives me hope :unsmith: [editline]03:44PM[/editline] I can forget briefcases full of money safely, knowing that they will be returned to me :D

It would take some balls to steal that amount of money, no matter how easy it seemed. I'm guessing he just didn't want to risk it.
It would take some balls to steal that amount of money, no matter how easy it seemed. I'm guessing he just didn't want to risk it.
With that amount of money, it wouldn't be possible to get away with it.
no
Yes! I shall remove all the locks from my apartment :v:
The Mercy of Khan
Well first off, that's theft, and they would find you quick considering cleaning personnel are on a roster for which rooms they clean for which day.

I'd take the money.

The man didn't know where he left the money 2. It takes a lot less than $70,000 to bribe a Pakistani police officer.
I love this world we live in. This story involves Pakistani, Japanese, and somehow an Australian newspaper. It involves cash with a total given value of £33,000, even though cash itself is apparently in dollars. This is way better than the old days when you'd only get new from your hometown. I mean, who gives a shit if the local church is having a bake sale? I wanna hear about crazy Japanese dropping thousands in cash in some hotel in Pakistan!
brb, robbing a bank and returning the money
KHAAAAAAAN!!! Is such a honest fellow.
How does returning money make you a national hero? I mean, shit, he did return $42k to its owner but how the hell does that make you a national hero?

"Call the manager I just found £10000 in here"
What they don't tell you it was £150000 when he found it.
tbh I would probably take it and leave the country
The temptation of stealing it would make my brain explode.
i would give it back too. get 5 paragon points
tbh I would probably take it and leave the country
Ironically your "to be honest" statement shows your dishonesty. Unless you're joking In my opinion, personal integrity is more valuable than money. Being honest to yourself makes you feel good. Think of it this way. By returning the cash to it's rightful owner, you are doing a good deed irregardless of whether you get rewarded or not. Being good means you have integrity and honesty
C(leaner): Hey, I found all this money in the hotel roo- M(anager):HOLY SHIT, YOU'RE THE BEST! *Puts arm around C* C: Really? M: YES MAN, YOU'RE A HERO NOW! EVERYONE'S GOING TO FUCKING LOVE YOU FOR RETURNING THIS MONEY! C: They are? M: YOU'RE A LEGEND MAN! A LEGEND! C: Wowww, I'm a LEGEND. C: Do I get a reward? M: Nope, you did too much of a good thing. C: Oh... okay M: Glad there's still good people in this world, hehehe *Walks away ogling money* C: Yeah... C: ... C: ...Good people. C: *Points gun at right temple*
Well, that was nice of him.
