In my honest opinion this band is the epitome of shitty generic christian pandering metalcore " haha we have funny song names check it out bro ;) praise jesus"
Their songs generally don't reference Christian culture openly, I don't see what the problem is. Also, who fucking cares about the song names. For all you and I know, Mike just wrote down words, couldn't think of a title and just spanked on something witty. There's no problem with doing that. "your music tastes suck mine are completely better :)"
they're not witty that's for sure. it's just referencing stuff that their audience is familiar with they do pander to christians. that should be beyond obvious to anyone that knows their "hardcore" fans. why does it just happen to be that they're all hardcore christians? Those people make up a good 10% of my school. and ALL of that aside they are still the epitome generic shitty metalcore
I like the movie better.
i saw them when they were opening for some other metalcore band. they were real meh
Too much metalcore nowadays. And all of it sucks. [editline]08:26AM[/editline] Except Heaven Shall Burn, but they're more melodic death metal.
In my honest opinion this band is the epitome of shitty generic christian pandering metalcore " haha we have funny song names check it out bro ;) praise jesus"
this
I don't think they're that bad. And the song names made me laugh. [editline]07:13PM[/editline] However I'm not a supporter of christian metal.
Better song names exist. Like anal cunts entire catalogue
they do pander to christians. that should be beyond obvious to anyone that knows their "hardcore" fans. why does it just happen to be that they're all hardcore christians?
Well first of all, religion is an extremely popular "item" in modern American society, and Christianity is one of the nation's leading religions. Being that they're white, and are part of a religion, it's almost guaranteed to be Christianity. Also, religion/creed doesn't mean shit in music, apart from the reference in lyrics. [editline]05:41PM[/editline] Anyways, the songs don't say "pppprrraaaaise jeeeeesssusss" or "ggggod is gooooooddddd" or shit like that. If they didn't announce that their all Christians, you wouldn't be able to tell.
I used to be pretty big into these guys but then I started dissecting their music. Their lyrics are annoying as fuck, their singer is autotuned, their screams are lackluster, and they're from Dayton. Although, I still love their shirts.
^You do have good points, I've noticed them too. Jeremy is always off-key in performances, and their lyrics are kind of dumb. But I like Mike's screaming.
Better song names exist. Like anal cunts entire catalogue
howard is bald, a true classic 1. Howard is Bald 2. Bald to the Bone 3. A Conversation With Howard Wulkan 4. Ballad of Baldness 5. Howard Wulkan Is Bald (Acoustic Version) 6. Howard Wulkan (Jazz Version) 7. Night on Bald Mountain 8. You Should Be Balding 9. If I Can't Have Hair 10. Howard Wulkan (Wesley Willis Version) hell yeah let's get BALD up in here
They seem like generic modern metalcore. Grindcore isn't much better, but the content of most grindcore songs is funny shit.

If they didn't announce that their all Christians, you wouldn't be able to tell.
why would a band actively go out and announce that they are christian though? It's to get an audience without having to put in any effort.
It's the same concept as our lyrics 'emeralds hold no hope' and many many others. What we believe it to mean is that possessions don't matter at all and someday everyone will realize that this is true. When standing before God, he won't care about your sweet Prada scarf or Gucci shoes or whatever. It's a Christian reasoning for the name, we didn't name it to attempt at being fashionable or whatever.
that's doing more than just saying "we're christian"
You go onstage and say that you are a Christian band here at the Warped Tour. Did you do that on the Sounds tour too? Mike: We did. We were warned not to – but we did every single show, like always – because I think God would be ashamed if we didn’t. Like what kind of Christian wouldn’t say that because of a certain crowd? It’s the most idiotic thing in the world! You’re supposed to tell everyone and not be ashamed to anyone. Primarily people that don’t even believe in God – that’s the people you should be preaching to. Jeremy: He has a lyric that say’s “Don’t be ashamed of your faith.” So it would be kind of hypocritical if we sang that and then didn’t say anything about it. Mike: We definitely received flack from it on that tour. Got flipped off and some stuff thrown at us. We’re alive, so who cares.
this kind of shit annoys me. they are the next stryper. Just a joke to anyone with good taste.
On the subject of their faith, Jeremy DePoyster (guitar/vocals) says: "We've all accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior, and lead our lives based on that relationship with God. That being said, it is obviously going to have an impact on the music we make. We're not about disrespecting anybody or shoving our beliefs down anyone's throat, but we're also not going to deny the one thing we believe as the ultimate truth. I know Mike's lyrics are largely scripturally and spiritually based, and he can tell you more about that than I can. But I do know that I take comfort in the fact that in a scene so largely based around death, and morbidness, and negativity there are still bands that we play with all the time that look at things without those negative blinders on. We're just not about tearing people down, or lifting ourselves up, because none of that stuff really matters. All that being said, we love you no matter who you are, no matter what your beliefs or dis-beliefs are. We just ask for the same respect back. We are not ashamed to say that we're a Christian band. Every effort we make is for one reason, and one reason alone: our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. We support many bands with many different goals, but we feel that this is what God has called each of us to do. I don't expect everyone to agree with that, and that's fine, but I like to think of I Corinthians 10:31 'Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.'"

Where did you get the ideas for some of your lyrics this time around? Pretty much the same as the last record. It’s based a lot on what I see in the world – problems with the world that I see. People that I know and people that I think kind of let go of what they believed in, and compromised what they believed in. Those personal relationship types of lyrics worked into some songs and all had something to do with God – and everything has the strong foundation of having to do with God.

Where did you come up with the title Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord? What a great title! THANKS! We were brainstorming, and we had an idea. We know that our music is kind of chaotic at times, and kind of crazy, but we know that God (God is Love) would think it was beautiful, no matter what. It’s almost like a present to Him. As you know we're a Christian band, so we do everything for Him. So this is like a presentation, to our Love. A beautiful, yet chaotic (discord) presentation. :)

Where do you get the ideas for these titles and some of the lyrics you write? Well, the titles are all jokes. Gauntlet of Solitude? We got that by asking "What are the two most metal words you can think of?" GAUNTLET! ... SOLITUDE! haha. Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over, Swords, Dragons, & Diet Coke. Haha, all jokes. The lyrics, however, are very serious. They're all influenced by our Christianity, and life struggles and conflicts. Trials and Tribulations, etc. Mike writes all of the lyrics, so he could tell you a little more about that.
HAHAHA this is what I'm talking about
This thread hasn't gone well
hahahaha i hate these guys almost turned me off of metalcore, actually
The epitome of crap is a pretty good way of putting it. [editline]07:09AM[/editline] d00d
These guys are my favorite band. They're awesome as hell live, videos and stuff don't do them justice. Saw them with KillSwitch Engage last month and their performance was just as good as KSE's. A lot of people hate them, but I guess they're just one of those bands that you really like or really hate. They don't shove faith down your throat. I went to one of their shows in December and after a few songs, they said something like "We know many of you have different beliefs, which is totally cool. We'd just like to stop and say thanks to Jesus Christ our savior. No matter what you believe, we hope you have a good time tonight and a safe trip on your way home." That's fucking class.

No seriously, above poster is a cunt I don't like this band at all, but that's respecting different beliefs and actually showing that you respect your fans despite what they might believe compared to you. That's respect and love for your audience

the best christian bands are the bands that keep that keep their christianity and music far apart. Though that's not really a christian band, then.

They seem a bit obsessed with telling everybody how Christian they are. I just listened to the first song, this is horrifying.
I don't actually find the music that bad, I quite like it.
