• What is a game server query address/port

So my friend received his server today, but we can't manage to connect to the server (connection failed after 4 tries). He thinks that it has something to do with the game server query address/port since we don't know what that is. Google didn't give us very clear answers so I decided to post a thread here. Is there anyone who could help us?
What game is it? Are you connecting using his external IP address? if you are then the problem is probably a port forwarding issue. You would need to forward the correct ports for the game to the computer that is hosting the server. This is a good guide http://portforward.com/ , just pick your router model and it will guide you through the steps to do the port forwarding. Also there is a technical support section at the top. :)
Team Fortress 2, but we want to use it for other source games as well. And yes the ports are forwarded. Firewalls are also off. But we really need to know what the queries are. Oh crap, didn't notice it.
Ok, I'm completely lost... Im running a clean windows 2008 r2 server. the router has all ports opened. and yet, it still says the ports are closed. ( http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm ) so I thought it was due a firewall block. I turned my firewall off. but they were still blocked. however, when I use the default programs that are already in there. like remote desktop, and port 80, I can normally access them. is there a small hidden program I miss? on other computers there are no issues at all.
