South Korea said Wednesday it successfully launched a satellite into space from its own soil for the first time, a point of national pride that came weeks after archrival North Korea accomplished a similar feat to the surprise of the world.

The South Korean rocket launched Wednesday had its first stage designed and built by Russian experts under a contract between the two governments. North Korea built its rocket almost entirely on its own, South Korean military experts said earlier this month after analyzing debris retrieved from the Yellow Sea in December. Mini-Space Race? I'm down with that.
Mini-Space Race? I'm down with that.
Considering North Korea, I have a feeling it's going to end with one or the other nuked.
Mini-Space Race? I'm down with that.
The North Korean people are suffering enough without having to fund a huge space program.
I'm not sure having a rocket crash and burn in the ocean counts as beating them
It's not like the US or Russia got to space quickly either, errors will happen, especially considering it's NK we're talking about here. Atleast they're trying (even though I'd rather put money into the starving peoples needs before space programs).
ok gayz i got nk's seecret plans for a rocket
"The KSLV-I launch vehicle is based on the Universal Rocket Module, the first stage of the Russian Angara rocket, combined with a solid-fueled second stage developed by South Korea." I'm surprised they couldn't do it on their own.
Eunstronaut
Hey wait, I've seen this before somewhere. Wait. Also it would be extremely cool to see them race each other to the moon.
Considering North Korea, I have a feeling it's going to end with one or the other nuked.
I'm alright with that with their tech they probably won't be able to take down that many people and it'd be a reason for the rest of the world to move in and do something about that fucking country
They analyzed the remains of Best Korea's rocket and concluded they built it without help :v:
They analyzed the ROCKET,not the satellite, the NK satellite is still in orbit as far as i know
I'm not sure having a rocket crash and burn in the ocean counts as beating them
North Korea did get a satellite into orbit without anyone's help, I'm sure that counts as beating them.
you do know that the government has access to the internet right

barely has internet
[editline]30th January 2013[/editline]
"The KSLV-I launch vehicle is based on the Universal Rocket Module, the first stage of the Russian Angara rocket, combined with a solid-fueled second stage developed by South Korea." I'm surprised they couldn't do it on their own.
Their original space program had a problem with the rockets exploding. They scrapped that program a year or two ago because they could not admit to the failure of their only two launches.
