Hello there, if you're reading this, chances are you're reading it because it may apply to you! Well this is a thread about addictions. whether it be an addiction to doing something, eating something, drinking something, or smoking something, this is thread to talk about it. Some info about addictions What causes addiction? (From: Anxiety-and-depression-solutions.com)
Genetics: It is believed that addictions such as alcoholism may be inherited. Individuals from families with a history of alcoholism are more likely to develop the disease themselves. Also, individuals from families with a history of any kind of addiction are more likely to develop some other form of addiction. For example, someone from an alcoholic family may develop a problem with compulsive overeating or workaholism. While environmental factors can also have influence, individuals who have been removed from their alcoholic parents and raised by non-addicted individuals still show a higher risk for developing an addiction themselves. Environment: Children raised by addicted parents are more likely to view substance abuse or certain behaviors as acceptable, making them more likely to engage in the addiction themselves. Individuals from countries where use of a certain substance or engagement in an addictive behavior are frowned upon or hard to obtain show a much lower incidence of addiction, pointing to possible environmental factors. Abuse: Individuals who experienced sexual, psychological, emotional or physical abuse are more likely to become addicts. The addiction becomes a coping mechanism, helping the addict to deal with strong negative emotions surrounding the abuse, feelings of severe low self-esteem, and possible flashbacks. Emotional Disorders: Emotional disorders such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder or post-traumatic stress disorder often increase the risk of substance abuse and addictive behaviors, especially amongst those who are misdiagnosed or undiagnosed. Individuals often use drugs, alcohol, food, exercise, or work as a way to self-medicate and escape the symptoms of their primary disorder. The Substance: Certain substances are more addictive than others, and risk of full-blown addiction is higher for drugs such as cocaine, heroin, or methamphetamine because of their ability to create dependence after relatively few uses. Low Frustration Tolerance: One common factor found amongst addicts of all types is a low frustration tolerance. Addicts are highly susceptible to the negative effects of stress, often experiencing distress at a relatively low level of frustration. They become easily upset over everyday stress factors, creating a need for escape. They find this escape in their addiction.
Some science: In your brain, there is a Gland that produces a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine is made of Eight carbon atoms, 11 hydrogen atoms, 1 nitrogen atom, and 2 oxygen atoms (or C8H11NO2). Basically, what it does is make you feel good. A lot of addictions are because of this chemical. The chemical is more widely associated with sex. Dopamine is released into your brain during sex, and your brain likes it, and causes a temporary state of euphoria. The brain, if exposed to too much dopamine, will eventually become dependent on it (Which is why they say not to masturbate too much). and once your brain is dependent on it, the only way to get off is to go cold turkey. Unfortunately, your brain is a lot more sophisticated than you think, and WILL stop at nothing to try to get this dopamine again, and this is where addiction comes in. You are not dependent on sex, no, it's just that your brain knows that sex is a way to get it. But if you do something else that releases dopamine, your brain will go for either sex, or whatever the new thing may be, and this is what is called an addictive personality. Now that you know how someone might get addicted, lets list some forms of addiction, and what type they are Alcohol: Chemical dependency Heroin: Chemical dependency Nicotine: Chemical addiction Kleptomania: Mental disorder/psychological addiction Nymphomania: Mental disorder/psychological addiction Weed/THC: psychological addiction(IN FEW CASES) Not a direct chemical dependency. Some marijuana users use it as an escape from stress. when the mind recognizes that haze as a good feeling, some addictions may occur PLEASE NOTE: AN ADDICTION IS NOT WANTING TO DO SOMETHING A LOT, ADDICTION IS A CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY ON SOMETHING, WHETHER IT BE FOREIGN OR PSYCHOLOGICAL. IN MOST CASES, ADDICTION IS NOT DONE IN YOUR RIGHT MIND, AND CAUSES YOU TO ACT RECKLESSLY TO ACHIEVE YOUR ADDICTION. IF YOU OR A LOVED ONE IS GOING THROUGH AN ADDICTION, THE WAY THE ACT DOES NOT NECESSARILY REFLECT WHO THEY REALLY ARE So facepunch, have you ever been addicted to something?
Internet.
Im addicted to weed ill suck ya dick for a joint
My brother is a heroin addict. I didnt know for a while, and when my family told me i was like "NO FUCKING WAY" I was so sad and pissed off i didn't believe what they said.
I have an addictive personality.
Porno
Caffeine.
I don't think i have an addictive personality (Although hot babes are addicted to me :smug:). Doesn't mean i'll go around doing Meth and Heroin though.
I feel like most addictions are bullshit. Some I can understand to be real but unless you have a weak ass willpower it is not hard to just not do something. Even nictotine. I dip once in a while (lol dirty) and I have no extreme cravings for it like all the crazy anti nicotine people say ( SMOKE 1 CIGARETTE ADDICTED FOR LIFE HURR). And if I do have a craving for it I really just ignore it and find something to do and it simply goes away.
I'm addicted to LIFE. :c00l:

It's better off this way, but I'm addicted to the feeling after a good workout. All of your arms and legs are loose and flexible, it feels insane.
It's better off this way, but I'm addicted to the feeling after a good workout. All of your arms and legs are loose and flexible, it feels insane.
I agree. Until the next day when you are sore as shit.
It's better off this way, but I'm addicted to the feeling after a good workout. All of your arms and legs are loose and flexible, it feels insane.
That's an actual addiction
Does this straw decend down your throat? Don't think so.
It helps bypass your teeth so you don't have 9 spoons of sugar flowing past your pearly whites per can. Though that's impossible to stop, it helps somewhat. I to, drink a lot of soda. I get headaches if I don't drink any. I've been trying to drink Diet so it would at least be a bit healthier.

Most of them are made with that splenda crap and I think splenda tastes bad. Also I've heard that diet soda is worse than regular soda because of all the additives and aspritame in diet soda.

I can stomach a Diet DrPepper from time to time though. If you drink it enough your brain will get use to it and start to crave it. Then when you go back to normal soda you thing "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SUGARY SHIT"
I was addicted to caffeine, i had 3 coffees a day for a week and i got depressed when i ran out, i craved it so much.
I know a former Heroin addict online on a *chan. We make fun of him constantly.
I was addicted to caffeine, i had 3 coffees a day for a week and i got depressed when i ran out, i craved it so much.
I know someone at work who has CUT BACK to 10 red bulls per shift.
I don't form addictions that easily. I've been prescribed powerful narcotics and been on them for a week and a half and it was easy to stop. I've been on Klonopin and other benzodiazepines and haven't got addicted. I got hooked on caffeine a few times, but currently I am completely off of it meaning I cut my intake to nearly zero (probably less than 10 mg's a day from foods that have it).
I know someone at work who has CUT BACK to 10 red bulls per shift.
Wouldn't you be pissing yourself every 5 minutes? Once when i had about 100mg of caffeine at school, i had to go take a piss every half an hour; that shit effects my bladder heaps. And when i do go to take a piss after feeling like there's heaps, only 5 drops come out. that's the main reason why I don't have any caffeine before school.
Fuck. I need just one more computer, man.
